  1. I have asked for one and will post when I receive it.
  2. Friends of mine in Bristol commissioned a lovely stained glass window of the hot air ballon fiesta and it looks wonderful and does a good job of being obscure.
  3. Jack, thanks for starting this thread, not that I need to clean up but it's prompted me to make sure my feature fireplace is covered up before plastering starts. Prevention is better than cure.
  4. My site accomodation is a caravan that has seen better days and Mrs Joe is rarely there this time of the year so I don't have a problem, in a different life however when I lived on a small holding all outside shoes came off at the door, no discussion and it worked.
  5. Is that a Scottish reg as I had heard of it but no mention to me for my build and my floor is concrete with UFH which WONT be dug up.
  6. Yes Terry, you are correct, two houses I have lived in have been hit by lightning whilst I was in them. However I have also been on top of a mountain and seen a guy " hit" by lightning, he was told the reason he survived with no real damage was his rain suit was soaking wet and it carried the current straight to earth, there was black burning from the top of his head down his suit to the ground, he described it as a " fizzing" sensation, I will never forget it.
  7. Personally all my plumbing is under the floor in solvent weld and coming up ( hidden) to basins etc. I would even feed the toilet up from under the floor but I am a bit OTT on pipework showing ? Edit to add I am not sharing any pipes, other than 110mm, they all feed back to the soil pipe in either 50mm ( long run) or 40 ( shorter)
  8. From another thread Jeremy commented on how much electricity his contractors used whilst using halogen work lights and how much heat they generated ( waste heat), I have found that with halogen if they are moved a lot the filament brakes easily so I want to replace mine with LED replacements and came across these , comments!, https://www.bltdirect.com/prolite-led-r7s-6w-78mm-warm-white-80-watt-alternative
  9. Local council and HS&E officer, What a combination!, with regard his inability to be shocked perhaps he is just thick skinned ?.
  10. My mate is an ex health and safety officer and he is a complete PITA, I love to wind him up because as an ex mountaineer and climber when on site I am always bounding around at height with no protection?
  11. I have been hit twice by lightening, different houses and were not overly tall ones at that.
  12. I didn't know location made a difference!!!, perhaps I will look at the market when the house is complete. Also, I have been looking at floodlights as my halogens get through loads of lamps, do they do LED Conversions?
  13. http://www.greenenergyuk.com/
  14. I went with green energy for no standing charge, I can't remember what I pay but I think it's 1p per unit above normal. Also have to say they have been very helpful , always answer the phone and frankly ( as I now know they do a economy 7 tariff) will stay with them.
  15. Makes my punt on EBay for a 4Kw kingspan unit for £750 feel even better?.
  16. Yet another brilliant example of the wealth of knowledge this forum brings to us all, I have bookmarked it and filed away. Thanks JSH.
  17. As an aside, during our purchase of our wood stove which is being delivered next Tuesday ? I was advised to buy and install a throat valve in the solid pipe above the stove, it gives even more control over the draw and general efficiency of the stove, it was very cheap in the scheme of things ( I also tend to think with it fully shut it will reduce the cold bridge up the chimney a little).
  18. Terry that is a brilliant idea, no reason to re invent the wheel so to speak, I personally would be very gratefull for any recommendations as I can "do" plumbing and understand many principles but by no means an expert. For example Terry I have no idea whatsoever what you are talking about in your thread on modelling your slab ?.
  19. I must confess I don't like decking simply because of wet timber being slippery, however thinking out of the box for a second if the deck was painted or treated could you not sprinkle sharp sand on it before it dries ?.
  20. Good point Nick I will note it for my build, do you think there is a real need to perhaps diary, say annually, to do the same check/clean?
  21. In my case I have a cheap over sink unit in my workshop to wash my hands ( no hot water in my workshop) but I will be having a fully modulating unit plumbed into the hot feed leaving the DHW cylinder so if we have guests for example and run out of hot water the unit will deliver hot water without having to wait for the cylinder to reheat. Also because it is fully modulating, if the cylinder has not quite got back up to temperature then it's ability to make up the difference means seamless hot water. The other option I then have is if the ASHP cannot deliver the DHW temperature I want without going into defrost mode which ruins the COP the difference can be made up automatically.
  22. I plan on using the Eltron as above mainly because it's modulating and been recommended by better minds than my own. I.e. It will only produce heat if the water flowing through it requires heat input, i.e. The hot water tank has run out of hot water.
  23. Here is a good guide to the hep2o range and application. http://www.sbsdownloads.co.uk/Supplier/Hep2o (Wavin)/Hep2O Installer Guide.pdf
  24. I think I read on this or another forum that you also have to have the sewerage treatment plant sighed off before habitation ( or council tax) can be implimentated, I hope, as that's what I hope to do to delay paying council tax until I want to officially move in.
