  1. I am in a similar position, I just hope my builders electrician will agree my plan, allow me to first fix then second fix and hopefully test and pass it. I always was an optimist ?
  2. Jeremy, I completely agree with you. Lax policy, lax officials with no will or teeth.
  3. Peter, not seen those before, looks just the ticket, well done. it would still be good to get swept 90' push fit bends as then when coming out of stud work the tail can be copper.
  4. Ah, just re read Dave's post and he implies the pipe is too large for the reducer, mine was too small so I may have got the wrong end of the stick ( that will teach me to speak read) . Cant find what I think you need from screwfix but this is what I think you need and it's FloPlast so should all fit. http://www.plumbcenter.co.uk/product/floplast-sp95-soil-reducer-110-x-50mm-grey-(pack-of-10)/?gclid=COKTxKGt9NECFQMM0wodAywHUg
  5. Ha ha, had just this problem on site myself yesterday, you need to put a fitting on the 50 mm pipe, straight join or bend or something and the fitting external diameter fits the ( so called) 50mm socket, mine was not a reducer but a boss joint ? Yes screwfix do sell single pipe, I bought some, item code 88188. Best of luck ,
  6. Having done work at premises where many 90' bends have caused so much "resistance" as to reduce flow substantially I much prefer bending copper pipework if there is room or bending plastic as much as you can. If I have to use copper 90' bends I always use " swept" bends ( much greater radius) to stop creating high water resistance. It's a shame you cannot get plastic push fit "swept bends ( or can you?). its the same with waste pipe, I hate very tight 90' bends and always ( if there is room) use swept bends.
  7. This is the issue I argued over on the other place, building regs say the devise must not cause nuisance however it's built or used and I believe the authorities should have powers ( that they are not afraid of using) to condemn the use of any devise that causes nuisance. The argument over there is more about the devise being built to regs. the analogy I like is that most legal cars can do 100 mph but if you break the speed limit you are causing nuisance and can and should be prosecuted for it.
  8. Nice work on the underfloor plumbing, that's what I think I would have done. I am on my site today putting my first fix soil pipes in whilst the builders are putting the I joists down so I can feed the pipes through the webs as you can't do it afterwards.
  9. I am away on site sorting first fix plumbing with no broadband but will investigate when I get home at the weekend. I would appreciate any comments regarding this plant versus that plant etcetc so I can make an informed choice along with others. Yes the Japanese appear to have a market in the pump market so no wonder people use their kit. i think it said on the Graf site that granular backfill was needed which saves concrete/cost but our water table is so high I worry about doing that ( ground anchors.?) keep your comments coming guys
  10. Yes, planning to do little this year but the house. If you saw how tight the engine was I think there is no way a bigger one would fit although it's probably the same block, however 2000 in a lightweight kit car will prove more than enough I think. Regarding the back end the early herald and vitesse had a reputation for rolling over but the latest version had a much better setup which this has got, shame it came about just before the car went out of production.
  11. Right, it's not my fault this thread digresses but here goes, it's a gentry, a copy of a 1953 MG TF. Built on the mechanics of a 1968 triumph vitesse 200 ( straight six) and we think it was built in about 1974. Original owner and builder died and it was inherited and put away for years. The gentry has a good reputation as a "good" kit car that does not look like one. Also good is the fact it has my favourite engine, six cylinder triumph, and disc brakes. History here for those interested. http://www.gentrycars.co.uk/documents/Gentry.pdf And pic of what I bought. I intend to put it on the road ( it has a new MOT) but completely rebuild from the chassis up over winter AFTER the house is finished. Purists will sneer as it's not an MG but frankly with the better mechanics and the fact it costs a quarter of an original it ticks my boxes ( and I can mend it with spanners ?)
  12. Ian, I drive a Merc, best car I have ever owned, say no more.
  13. During my planning, and reading other threads about plumbing I stated that I thought it safer to use solvent weld waste under fixed flooring, and was backed up by our pro plumber, however I can only find compression pipe fittings for shower waste fittings and am concerned about their long term reliability. Thoughts, comments please.
  14. Just had another look at the Graff site and it appears the pump timings are programmable which appear to be a good thing so I can follow Jeremy's advise on what's best. As it's German am I just optimistic that it will be well made with a good pump?
  15. Dave, I have not chosen that one, it's just that it's been suggested I consider it along with those you already list. We all know that real life testing is better than any theory.
  16. I have just been pointed at the fairly new " Graf, water treatment plants " " one2clean" and as this is something I will need a decision on this coming spring I was wondering if anyone else has considered one, had one or just has any views on its merits or not. https://www.drainagesuperstore.co.uk/product/domestic-sewage-treatment-plant-5-person-3750l-graf-one2clean.html
  17. Apparently one of my neighbour's gripes (and I don't blame him) was that my wife's ex removed a Devon hedge and a row of mature oaks and native trees along our road boundary. My wife was almost fined heavily by the council as removing a Devon hedge requires strict planning. I have since planted a beech hedge and behind that a popular tree line (which can grow fast and high) which has shown the neighbour my interest in restoring as best I can what we both feel was wrongly removed. He has even come over and asked how we are getting on recently as he has now given up on protesting against our build, I simply pointed out that NONE of his or the council's objections stood up against the planning rules as set down by the LPA or the national planning policy, and politely turned my back on him and walked away. ?. Yes I make take up topiary, and yes the manikin of me in his garden is still there, personally everyone I have spoken to locally thinks he is bonkers and the manikin says more about his mental state than mine. Rock on tommy. He has since had to put his house on the market as his business has gone bust so hopefully he will be long gone asap.
  18. I would suggest that if a fan was running 24/7 and there was still condensation within the pipe then something else is wrong, you mentioned sagging, that will produce pools of water, just a thought.
  19. Thanks all, bring it on, bring it on, ( now I shall be starting lots of threads on the nuts and bolts of our build) I really feel ( after a rotten winter with bad health) that 2017 is going to be my year. Just to show how mad I am, if you carefully look at that photo you will see a small car under a cover in my workshop, that's a 48 year old kit car that I bought last week as my next project for rebuild after I finish the house. And yes my other half thinks it's good for me ( as long as I finish the house first) .
  20. Well guys ( and galls) I don't do blogs but I thought I would share a photo that I received from my builder this morning. It's the first floor I joists going in. I am unable to be on site much at the moment unfortunately but as soon as I can get on site woohoo. p.s. To say my builders have been brilliant.
  21. Here you go all, not the best photo in the world but our friends could not be more pleased. It cost £950 5 years ago and frankly looks a lot better in real life. It is only 2g ( unknown u value) and done by a company in Bristol called Redland glass.
  22. I will ask my friends who I hope will supply a picture of theirs but I think theirs is only 2g.
  23. Join the club ?
  24. There will be payback.
  25. I concur with Jeremy above and this is what I have planned for our new build.
