  2. I am waiting official confirmation ?????(but can do nowt till I get back home next week ?‍♂️).
  3. Didn’t @pocster say Lego type concrete blocks?
  4. Right, 1, depth of hole, 2 thickness of retaining wall,3 maximum height of Load,
  5. No need for swivel with my design, does not rely on rawlbolts for holding the pole to the wall, @pocster give me a sketch with your dimensions and I will give you a drawing (when I get back home next week) ?
  6. I use a pair of welding gauntlets (very thick leather) but not much dexterity!.
  7. Welcome Greg, this forum is full of very informative people and you will gain a lot of insight. I too am just outside Bude and recently finished my Passive (esk) build.
  8. but you can pretend to be Irish and say “Feck”, Mrs Brown gets away with it!
  9. My only hidden joints are behind the shower in a stud wall, no way to get round it in my case, but hep20 are the dogs bollocks ?
  10. NO, just buy what poles and clamps you want from a supplier and don’t tell them what it’s for,!!,, (have PM a local company near you)
  11. As air carries very little heat it’s usually assumed that with the small air volumes associated with MVHR , no. I am sure it help a little but the insulation and air tightness must be near 100%..
  12. But is it still moving?, my son bought a Victorian end of terrace in bad need of TLC and the gable wall has moved, back bedroom floor goes “downhill” but the signs are it has not moved recently so it’s settled as much as it is likely too. Stitching brick courses and underpinning is not too bad a job to be done DIY.
  13. @Onoff You say You have little foundations, but has it moved yet? You don’t appear to have any cracks in your render. Lots of old buildings don’t have founds and they are fine. Good example in Shropshire when I lived there, chap wanted to convert an old threshing barn 200 years old, no additional load (the guy was an SE!) but council made him underpin it at great expense . I have done up loads of old houses in my life but my new build was lovely not having to deal with unforeseen problems and able to work with a clean slate but I was lucky that I had the money to do it because I worked my nuts off for years doing up old houses. How much could you do to your house without involving the council? Only get them involved with stuff not permitted development. i think you have to have a budget and work out what you can do for that price!
  14. +1 wot @Nickfromwales said above, my treatment plant is only vented to atmosphere away from the plant on the side of my garage past the house.
  15. My bespoke front door is solid oak boards but insulated as well, I don’t fancy veneer fir an outside door.
  16. I don’t have a gas membrane but Foam insulation below and rockwall above the angled tray, we simply cut angled pieces with a hand saw for below, boring but quite easy, does not need to be millimetre perfect.
  17. Had my drive tarmaced 50mm 10mm stone only 180 sq m £3250, you will need two layers for a roadway I believe.
  18. not sure I agree, loading the middle of a horizontal bar without triangulation????
  19. My old Dad always said “there is no such thing as right or wrong, only opinion!” Go with what your comfortable with ( I will visit you in hospital with grapes) ?
  20. Sorry @pocster forgot my PAD (pen assisted drawing)
  21. I still like my original idea, vertical pole in the corner so can’t go anywhere (side to side), bottom of pole pushing into the corner so no need to fix, horizontal pole fixed to vertical pole but overhanging pallet by 200mm with a bolt fixed to end of pole and hole in pallet to stop it swinging when level with the ground. Horizontal pole bolted down into wall or straps behind wall to stop vertical pole pulling away from wall. pallet slides up and down timber fixed to wall, counter balance weight at end of horizontal pole, it can be loaded and unloaded without swinging. Fixed to winch with straps/cable and spreader bars above height of tallest load you wish to carry. main advantage of my design is less critical fixings, only the bolt into the wall or straps behind wall are taking any load.
  22. Nor will @Onoff s.
  23. If you don’t mix the contents (brick and concrete only, no wood) you may get it cheaper as they don’t have to sort it and it can be used as hardcore or dumped direct (that’s what I used to do back in Bristol).
  24. Jeez, I had to have asbestos taken away to a landfill site in Cornwall, a lot cheaper than that tho!
