  1. totally agree ?
  2. Bio disc has moving parts in the dark smelly stuff and can be a nightmare to fix, I would not have one, stick with a blower model like mentioned above, plenty to choose from. (Like we said on your other thread!!!!!)
  3. Leave it at 10mm then trim with a Stanley knife after he has left ?.
  4. I used to drill pilot holes in asbestos sheet fir a fixing and Health and safety got involved (rightly so) and they recommended spraying the drill with water whilst I drilled to stop airborne particles. I am still here ?
  5. Welcome, if you are looking to stay in the property for any period get that roof renewed, get a good quote (high) and use it as a bargaining chip to reduce the price, any repairs will have a very limited effect in my opinion.
  6. +1 to the above, I have a Vortex, similar method.
  7. @pocster have you finished it yet? (Or Started?).
  8. From my experience using scaffold as a hoist I think one pole (suitably triangulated above ground) will be well able to cope with 100kg, if you load the counter weight matching platform loading . Running up a corner (on suitable vertical timbers) the platform cannot twist. If the platform is located on a bolt as suggested at the top it cannot swing during loading. stop procrastinating and get on with it ??????????
  9. no, being in the corner rubbing up timber verticals it cannot twist, any weight on the platform will keep it against the wall. The advantage of using scaffold clamps mean you can adjust any joints rather than drilling etc.
  10. ?, now I am only 9 stone but I would certainly ride that ?. There are lots that wouldn’t tho ?. Just had another thought, if that horizontal pole extended over the “platform” (pallet) a little, a long bolt in the end could locate in a hole in the platform to stop it swinging away from the wall when loading it!!! The winding mechanism has an “auto stop” to stop you winding the hook into the motor, you could rig it so this coIncides with the platform being level with the ground. (am I on commission???)
  11. Now I am no SE but 100kg is just shy of 16stone, so a (well proportioned) person. The only weak spot IMO is the fixing of the pole to the top of the wall, this could be mitigated in two ways, 1/ another pole from top of the pole down to the other side of the basement 2/ see diagram
  12. Probably best but because they are in compression timber might do. I can just imagine what an SE or health and safety bod would say (but would not stop me doing it!!!,,, swivel clamps like these (swivel clamps allow you to clamp poles that are not at 90’ to each other) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/15-x-Scaffolding-Scaffold-Fittings-SWIVEL-DOUBLE-Couplers-Clamps-FREE-DELIVERY/224085486430?hash=item342c892b5e:g:w2cAAOSwKG1fCHBR shame I am so far away, I would love to help build this. Just make sure no building inspectors see it as they will have a fit
  13. WTF!!!! I don’t see why you need 4 vertical poles, one up the corner bolted to the wall (mostly at the top). Triangulated gubbins at the top like I said before, 4” square timbers up both walls to guide the sides of the pallet (and keep it away from the pole). See crap drawing below regarding spreader bars. Perhaps a scaffold clamp in the corner to stop the platform swinging whilst loading it.
  14. Then why not a winch like I suggested, a strong pallet with a wire from each corner, spreader bars to keep the wires vertical, if the pallet is in the corner it cannot twist, maybe a couple of timbers up the wall as guide rails, don’t let health and safety see it but I think I would suit your needs without £££££ and loads of work? ?
  15. How temporary/permenant will this be? How many items? Is it worth lots of work? If it’s for the occasional item put it in a dumpy bag and haul it up/down.
  16. Ah, I only used 22mm copper or hep and had no problem.
  17. How about this, pole in corner of basement fixed to walls, then this above (excuse the drawing). Duh, can’t rotate it!
  18. No, house had full scaffolding, we extended a vertical above our head when on the top lift, additional pole from top of this back to inner set of scaffold to stop pole bending.
  19. Found this in the screwfix reviews " Purchased this hoist for loft conversions, lifted 2 steels with no problem, use with a sheet clamp it shifted ply and plasterboard without a problem Wished id bought it sooner " ?. I should be on commission
  20. we didn’t winch much weight but we triangulated poles to stop the poles bending. What weight are you looking to lift?
  21. https://www.screwfix.com/p/hilka-pro-craft-250kg-electric-hoist/49927?tc=MT8&ds_kid=92700046638549236&ds_rl=1243318&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=CjwKCAjwx9_4BRAHEiwApAt0zmiYhGkryHs6GUYHjZoU9BYpvOnVSZZQWLSoE0dtcI2WdEHl1XMm9xoCLmwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds and https://www.screwfix.com/p/hilka-pro-craft-hoist-support-arm-600kg/2240r depends what weight you want to lift, I think the above is rated at 250kg. that other one in the picture is about £1400 ?
  22. sorry, no but I just bought one of those I posted and put a couple of scaffold poles sticking out the side to winch stuff up..
  23. Very nice, bet you can’t wait to sit in it admiring the view.
  24. One of these and an a frame made of scaffold pole. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200-1000KG-Electric-Hoist-Scaffold-Winch-Lifting-Crane-Scaffolding-Garage-Gantry/333657926630?hash=item4daf8febe6:g:eT4AAOSwVbVfEbeb I used to use one of these fir bringing stuff up scaffold.
