  1. Double folded (not easy?) and tape.
  2. No, we used nails into the blocks to hold it up and the screed pushed it tight to the perimeter insulation, then we cut it back to floor level after setting.?
  3. I presume you mean sewerage treatment plant? Not septic tank?. Depends on the tank instructions but my Vortex is vented by the stack pipe at the house and no additional vent at the plant.
  4. Being old school I prefer string/line, I have a roll of electric fence wire (platted nylon with wire ) which is very strong and does not stretch .
  5. Thinking back to my planning fight including a new entrance, the “verge” is deemed as part of the highway, therefore your boundary is back from the roadway a little, could you not put an atco drain across your drive at this point which gives you enough room to dig a soakaway at either or one end just behind this demarcation line in your property?
  6. As much as I hate planners (generally) just being hopeful that a simple (cheap) question might produce some idea ?‍♂️
  7. Why not ask the planners what they would accept/want?
  8. But shop salad leaves are chlorine washed (like American chicken ?‍♂️).
  9. Welcome and bring on the questions.
  10. I am another self taught builder, (tho after a long career in telecoms), I have done up various houses of my own and when made redundant was inundated with requests from colleagues and friends to do building work fir them which turned into me being self employed. I do have a very practical “mindset” and despite finishing my build still interested (why I am still on the forum). I do think you need to specialise a bit, I never laid bricks and blocks and avoided “wet” trades, I concentrated on woodwork, plumbing, tiling and fitted many kitchens ad bathrooms, despite no formal training I turned down more work than I took on due to reputation and price. When I am asked who to take on work nothing works better than recomendations from satisfied customers. Best of luck.
  11. That’s what I did far cheaper than thro RHI.
  12. Welcome Bill, we are a friendly bunch so ask away, just remember there is no such thing as a silly question, silly is not asking, looking forward to hearing about your project.?
  13. @Dave and Helen, I installed a vortex treatment plant which specifies is able to discharge to a ditch that’s dry part of the year. https://www.wte-ltd.co.uk/asp-sewage_treatment_plants.html didn’t need to purchase a permit as below the threshold for requiring one, envoironment were very helpful. note, when discharging to a ditch partially running it must be done by a “rumble drain”, this has to be 10m long, a perforated pipe buried in drainage stone (a bit like a leach field fir a septic tank) but with the end into the ditch, also make sure you put a flap or grill on the end of the pipe, I forgot and a rat got into the unit and drowned but blocked a pipe causing it to not work properly till I dragged it out ?. Any other questions please ask ?
  14. What do your neighbours do?, who can make you use the main sewer (if you don’t want to). Have you the ground etc to drain a treatment plant?
  15. What do the six other current properties do with their poo etc?, they will have either cess pits or septic tanks surely? I have a treatment plant and much prefer it to paying fir a main sewer. We discharge to an existing ditch that’s dry for some of the year !
  16. Ah, ok, glad they didn’t ask me as I only had full planning ?
  17. but the quote above is from the actual VAT form which says “or”. ?‍♂️
  18. That refers to outline planning AND reserved matters. I am correct that it’s full planning permission OR outline permission with reserved matters…. quote….. Full Planning Permission Or Outline Planning Permission and Approval of Reserved Matters Note: both documents are needed
  19. Strange, we didn’t get outline planning permission, just full planning after going to appeal (but my VAT man did my claim).
  20. It’s covered by your red ring, but does it not say OR between full planning and outline?, also does it not say “both documents not needed” ?
  21. Welcome to THE building forum, remember there is no such thing as a stupid question, stupid is not asking. We all started somewhere.
  22. Yes, having helped on a couple of straw builds and initially wanted to build in straw myself I am interested in an update on progress.
  23. Screws don’t have the right strength quality for joist hangers, some people have used them but twist nails are the “proper” spec fir using with joist hangers.
  24. There is one within the forum somewhere that’s loaned out and posted back to the next user (that’s what I did).
  25. I didn’t use panels or clip track just borrowed the forums stapler (best to get a friend to help uncoil the pipe whilst you lay it), dead simple and easy.
