Solar PV Diverter setup - "Head Scratch"
Declan52 replied to swisscheese's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
Could something as simple as a plug in WiFi extender work to carry the signal to where you need it. A tp link type device plugged in at each location and standard cable to carry the signal between them. -
In order to make your money you will really need at least another brickie and a good labourer. If your doing it all your self you will be spending too much time loading up, mixing motar and putting it on the boards and not enough time actually laying bricks and blocks. So you either need to join up with an existing squad or form your own. In terms of experience how many years do you have, it's a big leap from garden walls to full houses. Have you all your cards, csr and insurance, tax man etc.???

I have the iboost and it has about 10m to send the signal. This travels through the block cavity wall, and at least 2 internal block walls plus a ceiling and floor. Never had any issues with it. -
Don't forget to pay that bill!

Yeah wouldnt hold it against him. You don't know how long he had been asking to be paid what he was owed. The red mist came over him and he flipped the lid. -

Are PV Panels worth the investment these days ?
Declan52 replied to Ballynoes's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
If you can buy them cheap enough and install them relatively cheap and use the excess to heat your water tank or use all the power generated then yes. So it depends on how much you can buy them for. -
Building is hard enough with out having to factor in how you come across on TV. Don't really see any positive points except you will have a well edited record of how you got on.

Before I break my legs, some advice please...
Declan52 replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Joinery
Either a couple of lengths of 6*2, a few hrs work with a saw and hammer or buy a cheap set which going by what's above you won't be short of customers when you are finished with them. What do you value most, time or money. Save money going the diy route or save time buying a cheap set. -
Don't think I could have done it. By near the end my two choices would be the bluestone ( mental facility) or maghaberry ( where murderers go).

There's a Ukrainian fella has done all the local challenges here. He's about 8 stone soaking wet but he can eat. Posts his videos on Facebook and what that guy can swallow in 20 mins is unbelievable.

Four kids in a motorhome for a year would send any sane person over the edge.

It's the motar mix which is the important bit. You have to make sure whoever is doing it measures out each mix so you get no colour variations in the motar. As far as building them goes they are treated like normal blocks. You will just have to set the line to suit the size or sizes of the block you pick. Will it be a natural stone version or a reconstituted block???

Only thing about lifting with forks in a digger is if there is no check valve on both cylinders and the load is to much the hydraulics will fail and what ever you have in the air will come down very very quick.

Going rate for labour in Glasgow area
Declan52 replied to eandg's topic in Bricklaying, Blockwork & Mortar
The warranty providers won't care who or when it was built. The only bits that matter are the how long and how much. If they are doing it in the evenings and weekends and their work is acceptable and you are happy with that method then all is good. -
Could you restrict how far the tap will open instead. Unscrew the handle and move the stopper round so it only opens half way. As soon as the building control guy goes change it back.

Have a small patio area made with the cheapest slabs you can get. 3*2 concrete slabs X 10 will give you a decent size area. Then stone/bark the rest.

Hi everyone, Just finishing off a new build.

A roll of black polythene, a few tonnes of pink pea gravel, a shovel and barrow.

Gary is a decent lad. I met him at his house a good few years ago and always said hello when I went past his stand at the self build show.
