Achieving a clean square cut with plastic 110mm pipe, how.
Declan52 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Waste & Sewerage
A felt tip marker and a 4 inch grinder. You can the chamfer the edges with the same grinder. A quick rub with some sand paper will get rid of any stringy bits after you chamfer it. Don't for get to grease the leading edge and the collar with joint lubricant. Not fairy liquid or Spit or any other old wives tale stuff. -
Beam and block airtightness idea

The damp proof membrane you put on top of the sub floor will stop any air coming up. It will get overlapped with the dpc on the walls so will be no where for air to come up unless you puncture it. -
Joist Hangers: too many holes?
Declan52 replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
Just make sure before you nail them home you check and check and check again to make sure they are in the correct position. Them twist nails are easy to hammer in but a real pain in the arse to take out. And just nail every hole. -
It doesn't need to be on all the time though. You wouldn't have an oil boiler, gas boiler or an ashp running all the time. Sounds like it's just set up wrong. In the manual is there a section on how you can set it to come on at certain times. There should be a set amount of preprogrammed options where you can select what one suits you best. On the display on the front you should be able to access a menu. I can't find a manual online what's the full name model number or even a link to it if you can find it. You need to get him back ASAP to give you a better understanding of what's going on. Can't see how you pay for a stove and get it installed but then you need to pay extra to be able to control it. That's just silly.

How are you programming it?? As in how do you set what time it comes on and off or is it set to come on when your tank drops to a setpoint. I set my up yesterday to come on at 6 burn for 3 hrs then off it goes. In them 3 hrs it will burn a max of 10kg of pellets. During them first 2 hrs I use the room stats to call for heat and charge the slab up plus my rads come on upstairs for 45mins. The 3rd hr tops the tank up for hot water for the rest of the day. If every zone called for heat and my stove burnt flat out for the 3 hrs I would have sent through 140kg in a fortnight. This would be the worst case ever and I doubt it would be much more than 90kg. What model is it you have??? How big a tank is it heating???

Do you include the wife in that category as mine uses the smoke alarm as the timer.

The tale of the sale of our old house

I bought stuff from aliexpress last week and got the text notification from Visa. Took a few mins to come through. -
Being able to use any excess pv I generate to heat the water up no matter what!!! ?
-
Maybe that's the way to go. Just run a smaller hp for longer. I could give the tank a 2 hr bump in the evening and then another 2hrs in the morning. We are all shower in the evening types. Think I would drown if I took a shower in the morning as I am not exactly alert first thing.
-
Cheaper than I thought but not the nice sub £1k bargains mentioned above.
-
So it is possible to run a hp like this then. This is how I would like to run one in the future. Charge the slab up in the morning and then that's enough heat for the vast majority of the winter months. The only problem would be sizing a hp to suit the max demand in the morning if all 5 zones called for heat. My 15kw pellet stove just about keeps up at the moment. But a 15kw hp would be expensive.
-
Can you not just use a pre programed setting on the hp and have it run for 2/3/4hrs each morning to get your tank to 40 degrees then have your immersion on a timer clock so it then kicks in for another 2/3 hrs to get the team up to 50.

Is there enough depth in these lights to hide a ceiling rose inside it??

It's just one of them things that happens this time of year. It's been miserable this last few weeks with it being cold and wet so your walls are drying out but have no air flow or heat too evaporate the moisture away. A Dehumidifier will aid this process along. As above a mild bleach and some elbow grease will take it off no problem.

A tall step ladder like a spark would use. Use some rope to tie it to the trestle so it won't push out when you get on it to get down.

Exactly you checked and checked again and then even had your good wife check again. How many times did the joint guy check?? Never really liked them things. A good old fashioned metal tape measure never gave me the wrong number yet. Now me transferring the number my eye sees and the number the pencil recorded has resulted in a few head scratching moments.

Block And Block With Render Wall Design - Questions
Declan52 replied to Johnny Jekyll's topic in General Construction Issues
Make sure you set the founds to allow you to increase the cavity to 110mm. You won't get the cavity boards in if you only leave 100mm without pushing the walls out of plumb. It will make it much easier to build. -
I have the wired system in mine. Not much to say other than it works.

Having a look at the black Friday deals and they have these. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07GTF2DN1/ref=gbmg_mob_m-3_2232_40ab0669?smid=A3PYE5NTYAN1NX&dealid=40ab0669&pf_rd_p=7547afa5-c66f-4143-863e-970185732232&pf_rd_s=mobile-hybrid-3&pf_rd_t=30901&pf_rd_i=14235985031&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=S84RNJD8HVSV8QYS74YN&th=1&psc=1 Works with the app on a phone or tablet if you don't want the alexa Google home type unit. Also ifttt if you want to use that method. At £10 a bulb they aren't cheap though.

What about a WiFi enabled light bulb. You can use your phone /tablet to turn it on or one of the Google home/alexa type units.

Underfloor heating problem
Declan52 commented on recoveringbuilder's blog entry in Recoveringbuilder
Mine would use around 1.5t a year. How much pellets you burn will depend on how big your water tank and how much hot water your build needs to heat it and your DHW needs. The price hasn't really changed much in 4 years. Maybe an increase of £60 a ton. So do you have a large store and get them blown in, delivered in tonne bags or 10kg bags?? Mine will burn flat out till it reaches its set point then slowly decrease until its barely ticking over. If the ufh needs heat or you take a long shower and take heat from the tank and its temp drops then the stove will quickly fire up until the tank is back up to temp then dies of again. I have mine set that it doesn't turn on its self if heat is called for. We just use the range of timed programs and have it come on at 6am. It will then fire up and heat the tank and any ufh zone calling for heat takes it. The floor will take heat and the stove replace it. By 8am the floors should be hot enough and my rad circuit will come in for 30mins to warm the kids bedrooms. The stove then turns off at 9 and will maybe have burned 15kg of pellets. If no ufh zones needed heat then it won't burn as much. We use this setup from nov/ Dec to feb/March depending how cold it is. Some days if the house doesn't need heat it will use very little pellets. Haven't it programmed yet as it's still not cold enough so just give it a blast if and when it's needed. -
When I was doing mine when I added it all up and worked out doing the bits without the rhi it was costing me about £1000 extra to go down that route. They had itemised the bill and most of it was paperwork things. I guess it was just a method of covering what ever costs they had to join and stay mcs registered. I didn't mind as my payments over the 7 years covered that extra payment easily. Once the rhi stopped here the whole renewable energy sector just died. Very very few companies left so it's things like servicing your system by an accredited guy that becomes difficult. You have to use these to stay on the scheme.
