  1. I’ve binned 2 SE designs for a retaining wall. Ridiculously over spec’d.
  2. The hardest part was pouring the incline foundation which reduced the width at the base of the wall. The weather was awful. Gabions sound like your best option being on a island. Giant Lego really saved my build. Funny that initially I didn’t bother getting a quote as I assumed they would be one of the more expensive options. I had a quote for a timber crib wall. Thinking it would be the cheapest. Came back at £65k.
  3. I didn’t need a crane to build that wall. Farmer and a digger worked out fine. The blocks have lifting shackles cast in.
  4. Empty cages were more expensive than the blocks I used. Ivy will cover them eventually.
  5. I honestly think gabions are crazy expensive. Concrete Lego is a lot cheaper, quicker and stronger. Gabions look better though. You can get great prices on blocks if you haggle because cement companies have loads sat on site.
  6. I read that their section drawings of 140mm solid walls with EWI can help satisfy BC. I had had a good relationship with my bco, but he has left the local authority for a private company. God knows who will be replacing him. I didn’t know you could go private, before I instructed council BC.
  7. You’re right. I was interested in the silver standard section drawings of solid wall build ups, but £60 seems a bit steep.
  8. Has anyone on here joined the AECB? Is it worth the £60 membership fee?
  9. I cant find prices anywhere near these?
  10. Best price I can find locally is 94p.
  11. Aldi special. Easy to return if crap. https://www.aldi.co.uk/workzone-cement-mixer/p/086066228031800?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxbavsNWq4wIVRPlRCh2AzQqNEAkYBCABEgKeXfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  12. The same as the attraction for precast wall panels. Drop in situ, bolt down. Quick and easy. Prices for wall panels are good too.
  13. Awesome. Instant torque of electric motors is a plus. BMW even play engine sounds through the speakers in the m3/4. Once my build is finished my truck will be part ex’d for a Alfa QF with carbon seats. Closest I’ll ever get to a Ferrari.
  14. Even Jeremy must think this sounds great ?
  15. ‘I don’t believe anything I read. They are all funded by someone. Im not a green type tbh. I drive a pick up.
  16. ‘That will be the first of the breed that will kill Tesla imo. The camper van they have in the works is v cool.
  17. I personally wouldn’t consider one until they become mainstream. I’ll enjoy the joys of the ICE while i still can. If I was Elon musk my name would be on the list for the new Aston Martin Valkyrie.
  18. Hydrogen makes a more compelling case than batteries if we can find a way to store it safely.
  19. Probably not what Herr Merkel wants to read. https://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/international-issues/electric-vehicles-in-germany-emit-more-carbon-dioxide-than-diesel-vehicles/?fbclid=IwAR08t4pCGKvbhFkeqgrcvEYlBVCwJO57CTuIr6RVWRpUS8qE4hVOrK0mXE0
  20. A pair of students in rented accommodation have as much “clout” as anyone living in the house would. The owner of the property also has a say. If you are directly overlooking their garden I don’t fancy your chances at all tbh.
  21. I really didn’t think traffic officers had mates.
  22. Painted my hallway this morning. Took less than 20 mins. HEA tips make a huge difference. Very little overspray or air borne paint particles.
  23. Are these still selling in large numbers? Now the retrofit cowboys have finished renting people’s roofs, surely new builds are the biggest market for these? MCS is just a scam. The whole process puts me off even considering them.
  24. Have you considered a steel mezzanine platform? Cheap, strong and bolt together.
