Adding Value and Discerning Buyers
Big Jimbo replied to MattSu's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I very much doubt that many people will be interested in all the great credentials. People like stuff like being able to turn the lights on and off using thier phones. Being able to turn the heating on when on the train. Turning the cooker on from the dest at work. People spending a lot of money on a house generally don't care about the EPC rating etc. One of the problems is that we have got it the wrong way around. Our smaller, cheaper, starter houses are what should be built to much higher standards. Loads of insulation, airtight, etc, are generally the one's that are badly built to minimum standards. If you want to sell for a bit of a premium, then look to add sexy, before practical. -
Looking good. I'm so excited. (and a sad git)

I like that. Great colours. Hope you builder has got his act together. that ceiling will take some work.

The thing that i would not be happy with is that tiny water outlet.

All the guys i have seen used on site just seal off One room in a large property, and usually ask you what result you want.

Drainage for patio needed?
Big Jimbo replied to doingitmyself's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
As above 100 gap where it meets the building, and pea gravel. Even some other fancy stone if your feeling flush. -
looking good.

Frankly, this is the most exciting thing going on at the moment. (I lead a sad life) Waiting to see how this turns out......

radiator covers with foil heat reflector
Big Jimbo replied to TryC's topic in Central Heating (Radiators)
I used to make rad boxes as a sideline before they became available in the sheds etc. I used to make very good money to be honest. IMO make sure the grill you chose is minimum 50% open..... Make sure you have not got TRV's on the rads...... Paint the rad, and the background inside the box in Matt Black...... Only bother with the foil if the rads are on outside walls, and even then i'm not sure i would bother. -
Zoot the Hoot. I'm a big planner, because i don't like uncertenties. But, try to have a bit more faith in your abilities. You are much better than you think fella.

What a pita. All the site sprayers i have seen over the years have always sanded all the walls and ceilings before any spraying. One of those fancy round sanders on a pole with a big round head. Hope you get it sorted.

I feel like giving up on the idea.

Is there actually going to be any actual above ground rooms. People are starting to think that the basement is where you are kept by the other half. Like a slave, where you are just called up for servicing needs, and when she want's to inject you with a new virus to test. -

Oh yeah, i'll stick around. where else would i go ? Need to keep my eye on the walk on glazing untill it gets to the point where it becomes swapable for a piece of used chewing gum, and a 40 win conker. -
The old cement mixers. They do take a beating.

Bonkers idea or a great idea?
Big Jimbo replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
Sounds like a result. -

There will be a lot of deliveries to your site in order to build your house. There are not going to be able to drop them out on the road. How are you going to get the digger in to do your footings ?
