  1. That’s interesting. The flips I have used get stuck as they must expand a bit with heat transfer. Click clacks never seem to work and pop up controls are not an option with every tap. Go for it and report back😁 we have just started an en suite refurbishment due to a hidden leak
  2. Inline fan above roof space as per first result from a search: https://www.google.co.uk/url?q=https://www.airconcentre.co.uk/products/manrose-mf150t-150mm-in-line-mixed-flow-extractor-fan-with-timer&sa=U&ved=2ahUKEwiXm-Ga1dOCAxWT7LsIHf2ZAPwQFnoECAMQAg&usg=AOvVaw3jeug-YSOlsDboWTPt9cjH The fan above is very well regarded and most good outlets sell it. Been around for years. John mentions a dmev unit which I am looking at myself. These run continuously at slow speed (low noise)and boost up either switched or by the humidity sensor so not like your “normal” bathroom fan. Apologies if you already know this. I am having issues with condensation in our bathroom so dmev is one step to help address this. My existing ICON wall fan is not shifting enough air and leaving damp towels to dry doesn’t help.
  3. Looks good and “shows off “anything grown in front of it. Is it actually black and not a dark brown? I struggled to find a black fence treatment. I have a couple of tubs of a creosote alternative which is dark brown and not the advertised black. Not had much luck with bedec barn paint on fencing?
  4. Mine are all screwed into upvc soffit👍 May have gotten lucky and hit a timber with at least one screw. I had to drill something like a 30mm hole for the cables and balm connectors which is enough to feed a wooden packer through for your screws to fasten into. Or, what about plasplug hollow fixings or caravan cavity fixings?
  5. It’s not just plumbing merchants, the electrical merchants have the same issues. I am having stuff delivered from online sources at cheaper prices than my local branches can themselves purchase. Car parts and tyres have been like this for yonks. Big suppliers sending in from Germany and delivering quickly.
  6. What Russell said. If your unit is tight up against a wall, the handle might prevent full opening and you won’t be able to run tiles up to the unit either.
  7. Try the cutter you linked. The one Miek linked also looks good but expensive like he said. Twist or jobber drill could do you an injury by throwing you around the drill! Apologies if you have skills👍 I wouldn’t fancy a Starret holesaw tbh, just seem to blunt very quickly. However, I drill Unistrut regularly and these fly through and seem to last: https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/products/4335977-18mm-sheet-steel-holesaw Not ideal for a 7mm web but with cutting fluid and taking it easy,I wouldn’t think twice about using this method. I sold a 240v mag drill the other year on a well known auction site. Had no interest for weeks until a self builder offered me £40. He was drilling beams.
  8. The thing I have noticed with gravel beds on membrane is that it does not guarantee weed free. "stuff" accumulates in the gravel and it doesnt take much for weeds to start growing in the gravel. You cant win Gutters too. That hedgehog gutter brush is excellent for growing weeds🤥
  9. Apologies if your an experienced hand but if like me you have have no previous experience of using this stuff, take note, It doesn’t self level😀 I assumed it would act like water and flow to a perfect level and leave me a nice flat and level surface.Wrong. Second attempt involved wearing spiked shoes a spiked roller and a fit helper to mix up whilst I spread. I had batons screwed around the perimeter as guides to level out the slope. dont ask about bubbles gasses off. Think the last stuff I used was Mapei and definitely came from Screwfix. I ordered moe than needed just in case and Screwfix have no problem with accepting returns👍 Other brands are available from other outlets too.
  10. Exact problem happens to me on one of our factories! I don’t think I have kept any photographs however, the layout of the drain is very, very similar. About every six months I have to get the drain blasted as it doesn’t take much for stuff to hang on the lip and build up. On ours, the fall is very slight and the ground is susceptible to movement. Still not much of lip though but it’s obviously enough. Also, it’s a ladies toilet block in a factory so it sees a lot of “traffic”!!! Why do they use so much toilet roll??😀 Only happens on one of the flexi joints so maybe more of fall/lack of issue.
  11. For heavy items I tend to go back to the gripit range. Over kill for some applications but they work well. Yellow and red sit flush and use a regular scew
  12. I’m fed up mounting screens on walls. Might be worth having an idea of model as even sticking to the same brand, connection points can vary. Some are bottom entry only and it can get difficult hiding cables from view. One screen we did had the power and hdmi pointing straight out of the back which required an ugly gap from the wall even using angled connectors. The pull out/ fold away brackets we have used all have unwanted lateral movement which becomes obvious with the heavier screens. It soon drives you mad when the screen is always wonky. Depending on your budget and brand preference and if your interested in AV tech. John Lewis and Richer sounds are respected sources for decent stuff. Smart tv’s, set top boxes instead of fire sticks are popular so a hardwired internet connection would be good. Sat cable from dish? Always a good idea to buy last years recommended models. Still good a year later, just a bit cheaper. Pick one with as many hdmi ports as possible. I never wanted a sound bar in my own home as I wanted a clean look. However, I quickly conceded Once the the tv was powered up.
  13. We use these: https://www.toolstation.com/everbuild-one-strike-ready-mixed-filler/p20822: available in lots of good outlets at reasonable price. Easy to use, quick to dry, easy to sand, paints over well, doesnt shrink/crack and can be used to fill deep in one go. Or use a cheap flexi car body filler
  14. My own cctv is HIKVISION which is really good and works well day and night with remote viewing. They also have a wireless alarm system which can be intergrated. I only learnt about the Hik alarm after installing the visonic. All depends on budget but some of the lads have built their own home systems using “cheap as chips” stuff and their pictures and recordings are really good. For our commercial sites we are having Hanwha cctv stuff installed which will integrate with our video access control and existing alarm. Not cheap but rail and government sites will no longer accept Hik (Chinese). I am not an expect on this stuff by the way. Do you have any local electrical wholesalers? I use Yesss electrical and they have their own specialist wh9 does quotes and recommendations. They are agents for HIKVISION and sell Visonic. Worth using their knowledge. A big negative with Visonic is the lack of support. If your not a registered installer then they won’t assist. I picked the Visonic because it tick the most boxes for me. The cctv was specified by my pros but installed DIY - not difficult. Oh, batteries lasted three years. My system lets you know which battery and when it needs replacing including any remote fobs. Cheap enough so I just replace them all as a set. My garage is detached and the wireless sensor is on its own partition so can be set/unset independent lay and communicates no problem. Sorry if this is disjointed but doing a few things at once and this is on an ipad😄
  15. My alarm/security contractor only install wireless systems for domestic clients now. Easy install and decent systems are reliable.Echo what the two previous posters have said. I fitted a Visonic wireless system for my home as it ticked the most boxes for us. what about cctv in the future or smart/cam door bells? Some are compatible with alarm systems.
  16. These three photos are of pebbles which are in a sheltered area. No obvious difference
  17. We did similar in 2017. black Chinese pebbles from a place called specialist aggregates. They still look polished today. Probably not as highly polished as originally supplied. Bernadette has been known to sit down and clean individual stones😁 Obviously, we are not building a house so have the luxury of spare time to waste.. i can attach a photo when it stops raining if you need?
  18. I have three 1000L IBC`s linked together midway so that they weir into each other. Fed using a rain diverter off the roof gutter down pipe. Heavy deposits should settle in tank one and tank three should have the least amount of suspended solids to filter out. The original idea was to use filtered rainwater for toilet flushing and for the washing machine but this was shelved due to our local authority regs and lab testing results on water quality/ pathogens. We just use the harvested water for the garden and this year I intend to use it to wash the cars using a suitable filter of course. It is really surprising how quickly we can use the 3000L of stored water. We dont get many dry spells in the North West but our tanks have been emptied many times. You do get plenty of visible bugs too especially them tiny swimming worm looking things. Our tanks are clear but they are positioned out of direct sunlight and algae has never been an issue. Oh, and the amount of bird crap that gets deposited on the roof and patio is amazing! put me right off and especially when the chemist at work showed me his results from my samples.
  19. No expert here but I’ve laid a few patios using various products. I don’t understand why a sand and cement mix would be used on a product that isn’t porous? For a wet bed of sand and cement to bond, the product needs some suction ie be porous, doesn’t it? Maybe okay for a short time. I used thin granite pavers on my patio but to aid adhesion the back of the pavers received a coating of SBR/cement slurry mix before bedding them down. This I was the instruction from the specialist supplier we used. Some areas I switched to a tile addy just for the experience. All laid on a dry concrete base five years ago with no hollows or loose pavers.
  20. How is the stair case fastened down? if the plates are 10mm thick steel that might take some force to bend. I have a picture in my head of you lifting or jacking the whole staircase off the floor without the wings even deflecting. Be careful where you press on too. The plate will bend at the weakest point and this wont necessarily be at the point where you want the steel to bend from. I presume the wooden steps will be removed to do this. You will have to "over bend" a bit to allow the steel to rest back to the position you want it.
  21. We spent a fortune in work on new display stands sinking monitors in, much like you propose. Tech moves on quickly and you never know what changes you may want or are forced to do. You are limiting your options for potential screen upgrades/size increase. Our IT brought in new monitors which then didn’t fit in the recess and all within 12 months. Are you having any devices connected and what about sound? Why do people mount screens so high? Lots of friends do this and it just isn’t comfortable staring up all the time.
  22. No expert here but I have always used rubber crumb underlay. I Was advised on this many years ago by the old guys fitting out a hotel I was passing through. Its hard to describe but the carpets felt so good underfoot. its good for sound, heat and heavy objects and is probably made from recycled materials now! Google and compare, I bet it’s cheaper than the branded fashionable stuff that gets pushed fwd?
  23. Problem with this though is that the cable ties are not UV stable. In strong sun they will rapidly turn brittle so may not "hold" in place
  24. I had new square line gutters fitted to our house and asked the guys to fit gutter hedgehog brush as we always had issues with debris in the gutters. No special fixings used and they can be seen slightly proud of the gutter edge. After a couple a years we started getting overflow after heavy downpours. on inspection, the hedgehog brush was solid with moss and stuff growing in it!!! it looked like any silt fall out gathered rathered than washing away and this created a lovely growing matter for all things weedy. A length of clogged up gutter brush has some weight in it which does cause me some concern. I didnt count on a regular cleaning regime, I just presumed fit and forget and no more leaf build up. I hate heights and working up ladders. Before fitting the gutter brush I never had a problem with the gutters overflowing like a water fall. Would I fit them again? probably not and especially if I have to clean them anyway.
