  1. I'm suffering this issue with one elbow - just can't seem to get a seal. Might need to try the liquid pfte . This is on the manifold tho so committed to a compression elbow with male connector. Everything else is perfect just this one.
  2. I'm liking it! Do you have any pics of the bulkhead before it got boarded and tiled? I'm getting ready to do this in one bathroom and not quite worked out the best way to do it - should I have a full 6x2 running across the top or do something different?I want the option of getting in behind to access the wall mounted taps and this won't be possible with a 6x2 across the top. Thanks!
  3. Love my skylight - it's beautifully made and as skylights go, it gorgeous. We love our new kitchen - even though we'll not be using it for a while. I love my in progress garage - since I was 16 I've never had a proper place to work on my cars and now I'm building a 6 car garge, I'm uber excited! We both love the design of the house inside - we did some rework as we we build the internals and it works so well for us. I really like my manifold for the water supplies. Lots to be happy about - the challenges and negatives just fade away, pointless bothering about the past
  4. haha - I had the same. Two (local) people told me categorically I wouldn't get permission and gave me hints about how someone might want to graze some sheep and I might recoup my money after 25years. Because I never told anyone about my application, I let these two people go on with their words of wisdom before finally telling them permission has been granted. LIke a camel chewing a wasp I think is the expression!
  5. I'm sorry but that statement is nonsense, it really is. I went to minute details for my order - and the company were fully involved - and they screwed it up. Their fault fair and square. It's simply wrong to suggest that if you do xyz, there will be no issues. In this case how would the supplier have reasonably expected to identify thus issue in advance? They couldn't and they are clearly not to blame. I don't mean to sound rude but I honestly think you live in a fantasy window world that is completely different to the real world where window companies across the board are crap - they appear lazy, careless and have poor attention to detail both in specifying and manufacturing. Without exception, everyone I know who has built or is building a house has had issues with windows and doors (Nordan, Rationel, Janex and Blairs) - and in almost all cases they are at fault - in spite of minute attention to detail by the client. And I don't watch Grand Designs but people always love telling me it's the windows test go wrong...
  6. Back to your question - Janex did provide drawings to accompany our spec - although in reality it only made things slightly quicker rather than any easier. In the end it's a rectangle with two dimensions.
  7. Anytime I've had people in, I have Multiple sets of the drawings printed in A3 and laminated. Their faces tend to light up! Works really well for the ground work as they kept their shape and didn't get affected by dirt or water. Not cheap but well worth it.
  8. For the guys I've used the invoice gets paid within the week. Spark seemed shocked I'd paid so early. Only fair - but I don't pay anything on advance.
  9. Hmm... Might need to give it a go. It adheres okay and no issues with rubbing off?
  10. These are on the way up near our current flat. I'm trying to work out what the make up is here - the walls are steel framed, but can't quite make out what is sheathing it - some sort of board that is taped? Assuming insulation is packed into the steel and PIR or similar on the inside?I see the steel sections arriving every morning when i head to work. I think the exterior is to be rendered, so assuming this will be straight onto the boards? Seems all very lightweight. It's an extremely exposed location - hope it doesn't suffer the problems countless other new build flats down the Clyde have suffered with damp and moisture penetration. Would be interested if anyone knows any more about this? Thanks, J
  11. We had a 45mm service void so in theory, the sheets could be put on and skimmed then the spark could go fishing... Recipe for lost cables and holes in the wrong places methinks!
  12. MK Elements in Ice White. :-) One advantage is we can paint then put the cover plates on afterwards.
  13. We did it the other way, partly because I'm the Plasterer (tape and fill) but also because I agreed with the logic that if there and shaggy issues when the electrics go live its going to be much easier to drop a few boards. Electrics going live this week hopefully then I start taping and filling.
  14. We've only painted the kitchen - used Screwfix Leyland white for watered base coat and second coat, followed by McPhersons Trade paint which went on well. For one wall, we used Valspar dark blue which was brilliant - we could have got away with one coat one the base white which was impressive.
  15. Another doors and windows saga. :-( good luck. Mine lasted 9 months, if you need a sounding board drop me pm.
  16. It was only a matter of time before the media and certain political groups whipped up enough hysteria on top of an appalling situation for it to escalate. Jon Snow being one example. I won't mention the political faction, but we all know. What I'm watching on social media is disgraceful.
  17. Remember in all of this - fire resistant means just that - resistant. Not proof. Just like Water Resistant and Water Proof are two entirely different things. It's a very important distinction.
  18. indeed a newspaper is not a source!
  19. That's pretty much my point - so much chaff and likely fake news at the moment - far too early.
  20. Numbers where? If the source is available and credible I'm happy to be wrong but for various reasons, I'm absolutely not convinced. I've worked on multi-million pound projects and £5k is pocket change and if you stepped forward with an idea to save £5k out of however many million you wouldn't even get a hearing. Happy to see the source data.
  21. What utter baloney. Sheer and utter unsubstantiated shite (not you - JH!). The media story around this is disgusting and certain politicians are blatantly using it as a political tool - barely disguised. This thread is quite interesting because we're exploring different views and thoughts on it - whereas the media are causing hysteria, anger, resentment when frankly there are no answers to anything right now. I find it all quite sickening.
  22. Don't agree that these aspects are irrelevant I'm afraid - in fact for those building houses to high performance standards, these things can be essential. You did state earlier a view on externally glazed units, something we have. Initially I was concerned about these until it was pointed out a while ago that these have very specific benefits in some applications - particularly high wind and rain locations, which we have. One thing I have learned us that nothing is cut and dried when it comes to glazing. What will work for one project may not work for another. To that end seeing opposing views is, in my mind, useful and constructive.
  23. It's okay Dave - the answer is on social media - it's Tory cuts to the Fire Service wot caused it. And I'm not joking - that's already being used by certain types. It's everywhere - can't see that happening. I can think of ten I know of and I pay little attention to works on high rises and don't have many down here....can you imagine?
  24. I got the previous version of this (Eco Rotary Laser 400 Builders Set) - doesn't do the grading at an angle piece but can't find the original text for the Eco 400 - might consider selling as really I only need it for tiling now and may go for a small cross line level as it will be easier. Drop me a message if interested - everything is all in the box and in perfect working order. Happy to sell for a good price to a forum member. Comes with glasses, tripod, charger, staff etc. http://www.laserlevelshop.co.uk/spot-on-rotary-laser-level-400-contractor's-set---promotion~874?gclid=CjwKEAjwvYPKBRCYr5GLgNCJ_jsSJABqwfw7JTqJX6u4EL0glPtkSY-TD4ZAjAKy40rgMNU0xjkK8BoCGEnw_wcB
