Heating, Hot water, ASHP, and Sunamp Design Needed
Gav_P replied to Triassic's topic in Other Heating Systems
I agree, I got mine for £250 new on the pallet... took a punt and I am happy with it... although it’s only 5kw and I probably need about 8kw. Not sure I would ever pay thousands for one though. They are not responsive enough for ‘normal’ family life, and you need to plan ahead with your heating DHW demand. -

Or as a compromise, you can get all the pipework to the area, put the cylinder in place, etc. Then the G3 engineer just has a simple job of connecting and commissioning. ? -

Sounds fairly normal to me. I had several phases of hating my house and thinking about selling before finishing.. you’ll forget most of the crap stuff before too long and will fall back in love with it. I expect most on here have been in very similar positions mentally during their builds... several in that place right now too. Probably won’t make you feel any better, but at least you know there is better to come.

I wish I had seen this before doing my roof windows, these sloped reveals look so much better than square. I will definitely do this next time.

Bad Airtightness Test Result
Gav_P replied to AliG's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Christ, don’t tell Mrs @Onoff that it’s possible to have a bathroom at that temp! ? -
Could you not get multicoloured then you can select the colour depending on the mood... ?
-
Depends where in Bristol... there have been lots of garages (normally at the bottom of a garden of the old Victorian houses which faces straight onto another road) sold off, knocked down and a mews style house put up in its place. They don’t have parking. So plenty of precedents set.
-
Explains a number of building issues you’ve had... like the walk on glazing.
-
Don’t you just fit one that isn’t actually connected to the heating system, so SWMBO can crank it up as often as she wants. But you actually just control it from an app. ?
-
That’s all I’ve got for my ASHP and UFH. Seems to work.
-
How’s that cupboard coming along? Have you done the temporary plumbing for the bathroom UFH? What about the en-suite /tool room ? Do you managed to get the hall floor up? Any power to the gates yet? ?

I diy installed mine too (carrier based, kingspan labelled). Simpler system, as it doesn’t really have the control system of most. Just 2 pipes, power and 0v switch. No buffer tank, 3 zones (UFH manifold, radiators upstairs, DHW - UVC), one pump, one filter, some isolation valves... job done. @joe90 did his own as well. He has a buffer tank. -
Can you identify where the water is coming from? Work back from where it’s discharging and photograph the first piece of equipment the pipe connects to.
-
@zoothorn I realise you said it’s in the air, but do you mean your rain forest is the climate in the area where you live (as suggested could be possible by @joe90s reference to a microclimate), or is it just inside your house (like legacy damp in an old cottage still drying out or moisture being introduced)? Hence @SteamyTeas request for the outdoor readings too. Just saying.. ?
-
Where is this moisture coming from? It has to be introduced to the house some how? Do you have water leaks (indoors)? are you constantly hanging out washing and never opening a window? Do you have hot showers / baths without venting the steam? Etc
-
Maybe the pressure vessel is a little low on pressure? ... that would lead to a vent of hot water every time it heated up.

Christ! There’s actually a shower in that tool cabinet!

To be fair I wasn’t convinced that a mesh system would work, so the driving factor was price... just in case I was throwing the money away. I’ve only got 37mbps at best anyway, so that why I didn’t bother with the M5.
