  1. I called into two BMs this morning Both admitting that things had slowed dramatically while I expect that site work will remain busy for a while Extensions and diy projects will slow to a trickle

    Building control

Exactly I know most of the private BC do this But you wouldn’t expect this from LA BC

    Building control

That’s really poor It won’t exactly keep your contractors on there toes

    Building control

I’m guessing it’s a private company I wouldn’t be happy with that Even the warranty companies come out and pretend to be interested
  5. Most of the high street print shops will laminate drawings now
  6. The 215 x140 would be quicker
  7. I’ve been installing both for decades and would always use a foil back board (Duplex) under any loft area Some building companies do Other's don’t bother I’m not why it’s not a building requirement to have some sort of vapor barrier But it isn’t The strange thing is A vapor barrier is always in the bill of quantities for social housing
  8. Clay is ok As long as it’s only foot traffic
  9. I work on both TF and solids We went with solid the first time round But looked at TF for this one before timber prices rocketed But found it difficult to justify the extra cost Probably more so now In saying that Without TF I don’t think there would be anywhere near the amount of self builders
  10. There’s a massive advantage to TF You will. Be watertight in a couple of weeks and able to start the inside while the brickwork is going up on the outside But this comes at a price
  11. As above But just to add that many suppliers either won’t or don’t want to zero rate Giving you two choices Our quarts worktop supplier wouldn’t zero rate So we paid it and claimed it back a few months later They gave me some nonsense about me having fitted the kitchen They are probably the largest granite worktop supplier in the uk But They price was right and they had the colour we wanted
  12. It’s all down to personal choice Brick and block has always been cheaper than TF More so now Due to timber prices more than doubling Brick and block have been largely unaffected Though facing bricks can be in short supply Due to major house builders pre ordering 100s of thousands
  13. Just remember Good builders are always booked up Be prepared to wait for a start date
  14. As with 15 mil plasterboard There is no need to add noggings to support the insulated plasterboard If your plasterers are doing the insulation they will immediately point this out I would just ask him to take them out
  15. Plus 1 Good builders will have ongoing jobs that they will be happy to show you round
  16. I would go ahead regardless The time and money and bad publicity Wouldn’t be worth for the TF company In any case it would be so hard for them to prove Empty threats It sounds like you have had a lucky escape A lot of IFS

  18. Should be fine 100 mill lap on th the nails Last nights storms should be a good test 😁
  19. It definitely shouldn’t wobble like that It doesn’t look safe
  20. Once your build is signed off You can swap your self build mortgage or your borrowing against your home to a conventional mortgage
  21. Whilst u values are higher Concrete blocks are more sturdy I wouldn’t build any free standing walls out of them Prone to getting knocked over or blown over Brickies love them
  22. She’s worked hard Cutting and loading But hammering with two broken fingers is a no no
  23. You can do it either way Sometimes it may be that planning permission for the extension hasn’t come through and it saves time to get on with The inside whilst waiting for PP Q 2 Extending or adding a heavier longer steel won’t be an issue
