I’d contact the supplier to try a different seal When bis sliders etc leak They simply try a different seal Quick and easy to fit
-
Bifolds are basically poor for airtightness I’ve fitted quite a few different makes and most rely on toe and heal of the glass for adjustment If the doors are fitted level and square most manufacturers will provide 2-3 seals Each a couple of mil bigger The fitters like a nice easy clean fit and arnt usually bothered over airtight ness From your point of view you need the door to grab like a fridge door My neighbor had a door fitted by Duration and complained of drafts underneath I rang them and they sent me two new seals The first one made the door difficult to open The next worked perfectly My neighbor said whilst the draft problems are cured The original one was much smoother Probably why the fitter used the smaller seal

The problem is We are lowing our imitations But globally they are still riding Not far from me in Cumbria a coal mine is being reopened to service a local steel plant with fuel Had it not been reopened creating 150 plus jobs The fuel would have likely been brought in from China lots of opposition from Greens I can’t see how transporting goods all that way can be considered better I also think that due to the cost of living crisis Reducing the reliance on coal and gas has gone out of the window The ban on gas boilers in new homes won’t happen anytime soon OK they may decide to call them something else But the use of gas in new properties will carryon Heats pumps in new properties are the way forward But not if the energy that runs them is reliant on Fossil fuel As it is now

That’s interesting Are they s similar price to Mitsubishi and other more well known makes

If the batons are wonky The plasters will follow what’s there The good thing about insulated boards is they are flat and rigid Any bad shapes in the studs will cause a step They are better fixed to gypliner As you can easily get it perfectly flat
-
Pink backed insulated PB are ideal for dot and dab Simply solid dab where you have kitchen units etc I did all the perimeter walls on ours

I do dozens of bathrooms with Ditra Matt glued down Absolutely bombproof Or if your not bothered about the build up A 10 mil insulation or backer board bedded on adhesive then screwd down the following day works well Most of the site bathrooms we do don’t want a step
-
You can stick Ditra mat direct onto the deck

I did our previous build stairs I’m certainly no joiner But the trick is to get them measured by the people who are making them

Self Build Novice - Navigating Minefield of Options!!

Brick and block are definitely not a thing of the past We have chosen solid over timber Frame on our last build and current one partly due to the difference in cost I have worked on both for many years and prefer solids to TF But if you want convenience TF or Sips is definitely that Don’t be pushed into piling We used deep strip and Clay board on our last build Clay ground and hundreds of 10 meter trees to three sides Gas boiler on our previous HP on our Current build Expecting it to be significantly more expensive to run than our gas boiler But no gas in the area So not an issue All the build shows that we visited are poor r also ons of the NEC show Excellent- 11 replies

No chance of voiding They will have paid it in within three months of receiving payment Of course it can be claimed at the end of the build We had a block and beam company on our last build that wouldn’t zero rate But there total came to less than what we could buy the materials and hire a crane So we paid the vat and simply claimed it back at the end and UFH company also Wouldn’t budge on the vat But similar price for me to just buy the materials No problems with our vat claim
-
As above You shouldn’t be charged vat on a new build But you can claim it back at the end As long as the company is vat registered Some companies insist on charging the vat Especially the smaller ones You have two choices To use them or not Unfortunately they will have already paid the vat in But all is not lost You can claim this back with your vat claim at the end

Generator to supply power to static caravan?
nod replied to Ejfraz's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I hired a 10 Kva silent generator for a wedding weekend Pricy But very quiet Ran all weekend without refueling Have you considered Buying a normal generator and building soundproofing around it We have been using a shed with a Scaf poll for an exhaust- 9 replies

Yes it is a bit of an odd angle The ridge is actually 7 meters from the back of the chimney Though doesn’t look it in the photo I had a 2 meter lift on the scaffolding Which was ok for Building off But my 6”5 frame would stretch to put the Cowell on so I had to climb on the stack

Three months on since I started the main house roof Lots of design issues that simply didn’t transfer to reality I expected to birds mouth every truss and new there would be a lot of work in the valleys to carry the 60 meters of lead But I didn’t anticipate the time it would take with the loose rafters and making the two dormer windows up Deborah and myself are chipping away at the slating Lots of cuts But mostly the weather has slowed things down Lead on the two dormers and chimney to finish and about 1200 slates still yo do 4500 already used There’s 1200 to lay on two lower roofs But can’t put the roof on till the roughcast render is done Our son has offered to give me lift with rendering the workshop and house Two days scratch and mesh coat three days top coating That’s dry days 😁 I wonder how many of us have said if only we were a couple of months earlier in starting
