  1. In all my years in the building game I can’t remember October November December and now January being so mild and wet I’ve still another eight days slating to do on the house 708 First day back at my paid job and I’ve already a contractor on the phone asking if we will be there to start rendering today Forecast looks bleak Moan over Get on with some Framing Why do we do it
  2. A hate the look of solar panels with a vengeance So much so I ignored planners on our first build and installed a beautiful slate roof The same onThis one 12k spent on slates Not a solar panel in sight Why would you want to spoil a very expensive seam roof
  3. I’ve been buying transits for the past 30 + years and haven’t found anything as durable
  4. Most of the Architects are pretty tuned in to what BC will ask for It just saves time to get in there first
  5. Your Architect is probably prompting what BC will as for Wind posts are incredibly easy to install We had a similar extension on our last home I intended putting WPs in But our engineer designed an elaborate steel plate system bolted to the house I go with your Architects suggestion
  6. Gallow brackets are a thing of the past and will not go through Buiding control You will have to take it all out Or live with it
  7. Hilti like everything else 2 years no quibble guarantee
  8. I’ve been chatting to our local rep and he’s agreed to reduce K prices Partly the terrible wether over the last few months and suspect mostly The expected downturn Both base and top coat will drop to pre pandemic rates With a little bit of commitment on my part I suspect Webber are reducing also I was watching the news ass the pandemic started They we’re doing a tour of a loo roll factory just a few miles from me The chap stated that while people where hoarding They produced a million per day and had storage capacity for six days I suspect the same will apply to many others

  9. We have UFH on our first build and will have on our next As with you we would have struggled for locations for rads 153m2 on the ground floor Inexpensive to run Rads ups stairs Though four years after moving in we still haven’t used them
  10. Plus 1 I would even consider reducing the house size to make room At some stage you will need access for maintenance A meter has to be the bare minimum After all you neighbors may decide to build right upto the boundary Blocking access for both
  11. Slightly different but same principle We received a large demand for our previous build Even though we had no power water Or even stairs We did exactly as Ian suggests and made an offer to pay a small amount that was due and start paying the full CS They quickly accepted
  12. I’ve had a few sets from Duration Great products and price Second to none backup warranty
  13. Yeah We took ours back They only had a display model and as the guy was helping me into the van He told me to drive carefully as the transit bolts had been taken out 😂
  14. That’s pretty bad When I was first married I fitted a washing machine with the transit bolts still in I switched it on and it chase me round the kitchen You wonder how many others they have fitted like this
  15. Vauxhall vans are pretty rubbish Whilst i have a van Tipper trailer is more use on a self build
  16. I presume the block is rendered Fix a cement board to the stud with back to back stop beads and render all Simply knock the stud out cleanly when you decide to add patios
  17. So true Last summer I did the plastering and tiling on a self build not far from Ian She purchased a beautiful caravan with a store office and a toilet After eight weeks only the brave would use the toilet let alone use the office or tool store
  18. Yes on the last two builds I laid the beams on a 600 mil dpc Then folded it over the ends onto the slip blocks and laid my first course of block on it
  19. Thanks Ian We try 😁
  20. The two pictured did with the corners planned The deeper ones needed a rip of 10 mil ply I cut all mine ready and put a couple of bolts in each and lifted in place with the steel guy Then spent a couple of hours drilling the Timbers and bolting The steel guy will expect this
  21. The easiest way is to bolt a timber in the beam prior to lifting the steels in Then simply nail the hangers in It took me about two hours to do eight steels Very easy on the ground More tricky when in situ
  22. nod

    Tony Tray Q's

It is a simple process Cutting a cavity dpc with a Stanley knife is easy But you will still see Brickies using a trowel to cut Its just a case of making sure the tray isn’t bunched or ripped Then covered over
  23. A memory piped up on FB from five years ago showing our first build
