Going from tile to seam could well cause you issues But from modern to traditional won’t cause you any issues with planners I thought wages would have dropped by now But prices are still going up with trades still fully booked Especially anything specialist I’ve a friend who does this kind of work He has seven lads working for him He’s booked up for most of this year Partly due to the bad weather He hardly worked in the six week run up to Christmas Most others will be the same I hired a bumpa hoist from Speedy in November It took them a week to locate one over 200 miles away I’ve booked it again this week Only to find it’s still at my local depot Roofers will recouped what they have lost over the coming months

In the summer, can a heat pump do cooling *and* hot water?
nod replied to Garald's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
The suppliers I spoke to said it voided your grant But as you say Why The option Probably similar to MVR More environmentally friendly to open a window than use a tiny amount of electricity -

The sellers I’ve spoken to all advise Against it -
We weren’t happy with the quality of slate on our first build Nearly a thousand badly twisted and lots of variation in thickness Weve spent a bit more and purchased 5000 600x300 Estillo Prime Amazing consistency of thickness Less than 30 twisted slates out of 4000 used 600 x 300 £2.70 500 x 250 £1.80

They shouldn’t But planners continually contradict themselves and seem to pick and choose as to when they follow policy The softly softly approach doesn’t work If you look through your local planning passed and think wow I wouldn’t have thought that would be passed The application is nearly always submitted by a planning consultant They run rings around planner Pros v immatures

Backer boards for large format tiles
nod replied to LinearPancakes's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
I use the bg backer on most jobs out performs cement and easier to handle and cut -
100% yes I can never see the point of fixing through a frame Other than saving on patching

That’s terrible Ian Fingers crossed for later this month

Backer boards for large format tiles

Pretty easy one As a rule we don’t go over 20 kg m2 for PB Some builders drive us crazy by insisting walls are skimmed prior to tiling Then it drops down to 15 m2 The weight will be printed on the side of the box Check your tile thickness 6 is very thin If your worried about sound use a 15 mil moister soundboard -
I put to studs back to back with a 150 cavity Great for soundproofing also

According to Sap last time and this I would probably need the 30 years to realize my initial outlay 😂 -

I’ve said it many times before Won’t the PV need replacing by the time you have eventually recouped the initial layout The projected saving on our previous build was about £250 per year Probably more than double that now Still a lot of years before it pays for itself -
and why not Every other industry are pushing for a pay rise Whilst the large building companies have been covering our material price rice’s Gypsum are adding another 7% later this month Two large companies we deal with have agreed to re negotiate labour rates in an effort to try and retain an already depleted workforce We are two years into a three year site If we carryon at the rate we are it will take seven years it’s a vicious cycle Higher wages to combat inflation In turn pushing up inflation

I’m not over keen on the Johnson Monocouche is better and should be cheaper
-
A contract is good as far as it will list all the work he is responsible for and also your responsibilities regarding stage payments Unfortunately he’s right A contract isn’t worth the paper it’s written on
-
Better glued and ring nailed
-
If it’s face work you will have to live with it If it’s being rendered Stick a cement board over and render it
-
Why not hire a power float for the day Better finish than self leveling I polished our workshop floor the morning after laying

Timber prices in general have come down But other costs have gone up I can only think there order books are still full We have gone from chasing quotes To being bombarded with calls from reps This week alone we’ve had visits from two Ally window manufacturers and a UFH company All offering discounts and we are on a country road So not on the beaten track As I’ve said previously you need to shop around Companies Including mine have had a bonanza over the last three years

Alternatives to plasterboard/plastering as a wall finish?

Going back to growing up in the 70s Like many homes we had boarded panels to two walls in our lounge I think it’s just trends -
Alternatives to plasterboard/plastering as a wall finish?

There’s nothing to stop you Battening out and using Osb If you are ok with the rustic look A bit more expensive on materials But you will save on labor if you do it yourself The reason why plaster and now plasterboard has stood the test of time Apart from being relatively cheap Is its fireproofing properties
