The one thing you regret not doing
Canski replied to Pocster's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
At the moment I regret not walking away when Putin invaded Ukraine then I would have avoided all the agro with Batman and the section 106 agreement that has held everything up for 10 weeks. Hopefully I’ll get planning next week and I will be feeling better about it all. Then the clock starts ticking again while I wait for natural England to process my bat licence. -
Kingspan v Knauf (or phenolic boards v glass mineral wool)
Canski replied to AChristie's topic in Heat Insulation
Mainly due to the retaining clips that are 10 - 12 mm wide and also there is no room to get a trowel in at an angle to remove any snots from the back of the masonry.- 16 replies

As above provide a cavity with a cavity closer inside of the door to prevent thermal bridging.

Can anyone provide a potential cost to clad this in brick please
Canski replied to Post and beam's topic in Brick & Block
I missed the plinth that would be a small extra lin m rate but should be covered in previous rates. Add the inglenook bricks to my calcs. Zero rated VAT on new housing. -

Well done ! I make it 6959 at a rough guess add 5% cutting and waste gives you 7307. I'm sure you're aware that your ground floor plan doesn't match your elevations ? @eandgis about right with pricing for my area. -

I am a brickie and that sounds about right. Ive not measured anything today yet so if you gave me the dims or a ground floor plan and also ground floor window and door sizes I can have a quick look for you. Are they herringbone panels on the front ? -
A bad start to the day for me so I gave up and ended up with cheese on toast. I am surrounded by bungling incompetence.

If the foundation and masonry is built to their details I can't see a problem. You should have section details and a plan layout.

I had to call them out to a lethal scaffold once where people could have died. They didn’t bother coming out. It was at least 15 years ago so maybe they have improved.

Ideas wanted to pass Part O Simplified modelling or to use Dynamic modelling?
Canski replied to Susie's topic in Ventilation
on the subject of blinds .. would they need to be external or would the integrated blinds commonly used in bifold doors suffice ? I had some on my old house and they seemed to keep a lot of solar gain at bay. -

I had a quote for £900 plus VAT for mine against £200 for the simplified method. They were very thorough, helpful and communicative when they did my SAP calcs. and I would recommend them. RJ energy consultants Ltd. -
Do I need planning permission for converting my Garrage ?
Canski replied to Achu's topic in Introduce Yourself
I’ve seen 2 planning applications passed for the same recently within 6 doors of my project. -
Why not go round and chat to the builders and ask what their plans are for the next week or so.
-
I’m going to have to give this a try
