Should a padstone always be used under an RSJ in load bearing walls? The S.E I've used (regrettably) keeps overlooking so much that I'm totally fed up with them. It's a pretty long steel (5m odd IIRC) so I'm might surprised he states it sits directly on the block wall

If your adhesive can be laid with water (like CT1), I once saw a thing where they laid huge blocks of stone on ice cubes. The ice melted letting the blocks lower into place

I'm in exactly the same position and found some suppliers will treat the timber but I haven't looked into it with too much detail. One thing you may want to confirm is what "treating" means to them, as some suppliers mean for woodworm etc and not rain/moisture.

Have you checked Ebay, got a replacement for mine a couple of years back for around £25

would you get used galvanised Kwikstage if it wasn't too expensive? Might have found some for around the refurbished price.

Yep, a builder mate didn't follow that rule, was trying to hold a 9" angle grinder cutting into a wall - until it kicked out and went straight into the top of his hand. Thankfully the surgeons managed to reattach nerves etc and he has full use of his hand, but he was out of action for nearly a year with his hand in some traction device .

What's the oversanded mix? Not heard that mentioned before. Did you not use a poker around any rebar/lintels, was told that has to be done?

million dollar question, mine was recommended so that didn't count for much. I guess all you can do is chat to some and go with gut feeling

I recently contacted a few for prices. A piece of advice is to check they have quoted the spec you have asked for. I had them change the spec and I'm sure it's just to lower the price and get an order

well when I double checked the supplier who said his timber boards were treated, turns out they're not. Baffled how they could get something so important so wrong

Just had a look on Ebay for Kwikstage stairs and nothing came up How long ago were they on there? Gonna visit a supplier on the N.E next week to look at their used stuff. I guess I'm just worried that used may be nearing the end of it's life and I need it for a good few years and need to be able to sell it on

I assumed all new timber boards would be the same. Another supplier has said their boards aren't treated, just machine graded and to a British standard Anyone used the Kwikstage staircases? I'm contemplating them as I'll be working on my own and thinking it would be a lot safer than ladders

Been told by one supplier that the timber planks they supply are treated So would second hand steel planks be preferred to new timber ones? Realistically, my scaffold will be up for another year or 2, possibly a bit longer - so at least 2 more winters too. In terms of selling on at the end, I wonder if new Kwikstage would fair better in selling easier. I can't see it getting too damaged on my build, probably some scuffs. The difference between used and new is about 5k or so

Magnethead, when I read leaving a small channel, my first thought was it would be somewhere for crap to sit and then not let the rubber seal work properly? No idea how long galvanised would last, thought it was pretty tough?? I'd imagine it would cost a fair bit so I'd be happy for another solution @Russell griffiths do you mean a fibreglass angle for me or magnethead?

so not a good idea to bury timber in concrete then?
