  1. I think we all know the answer to that ?
  2. Me too! Years of unpleasantness potentially averted. Sweet! Well done you ?
  3. Just get on with it sweetie and then it won’t dry out ?.
  4. Must be all that cosying up in a cold caravan. Thank God I had a rental flat ?.
  5. If you look around on Street View there are all sorts of styles and colours in that area. https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2018/aug/19/amin-taha-15-clerkenwell-close-miesian-flintstone-poetry?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Tweet
  6. As Dave says they could put a an ugly brick cladding on it. Not sure about the ‘too high’ comment though.
  7. Indeed. I just edited it to say that actually.
  8. But nor will they have approved the revised plans either if they ‘lost’ them surely? I’m not defending the council but surely you don’t go ahead with any radical changes without getting the necessary approvals? Might only have heard half the story though. But the ‘not in keeping’ argument again. There has to be some movement towards more modern designs being accepted surely or we will just keep creating the same thing over and over, from decades or even centuries ago.
  9. This time in Islington. It’s not the end of the line yet I guess http://www.islingtongazette.co.uk/news/architect-amin-taha-riba-award-win-15-clerkenwell-close-islington-council-demolish-1-5705356
  10. People I know were on Grand Designs. They built this: https://www.kentonline.co.uk/features/homes-gardens-and-interiors/grand-designs-home-goes-on-124705/ I wouldn’t choose to live in a house with this design with 4 dogs though (as they had) although I guess many town houses are similar in layout. It’s been up for sale for ages but now looks to be under offer after being reduced. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-54518733.html
  11. Agreed. My neighbour continued her quest to have Network Rail comply with the burden on the plots here and 5 different lawyers agreed on the interpretation. Network Rail say that they don’t agree with the interpretation and my neighbour has now been advised by her own solicitor that it would be unwise to take them on through the legal route due to the potential costs involved. Not before she spent well into 4 figures though! Cases are reported all the time where people almost bankrupt themselves arguing over a tiny strip of land or some such. Luckily common sense prevails for most and unless it has extremely serious consequences most people will yield.
  12. Did those come from AliExpress too?
  13. I guess it boils down to whether you have someone who can check and correct things bought from China. I don’t so I probably wouldn’t take the risk with electrical personally but still some good deals for people who can get the stuff checked out.
  14. +1. If someone had knocked on my door out of the blue telling me their plans to build a house round here I would probably not even be in a position to consider the implications at that point. People need time to consider the implications and only then can they really start to object albeit their grounds may not have substance. I still think you did the right thing however.
  15. They didn’t hold up the PP, it was granted despite their objections. The complaints to the council happened whilst we were building the house. We would look at the minutes each month to see what misdemeanour we had offended them with that month. It was all highly unprofessional on their part TBH and I’m sure that the main council got highly sick of their complaints. My husband and neighbours went up to one of their meetings once to try to understand the cause of their venom. I couldn’t go as I was working away. Apparently it was a waste of time and all that was recorded in the minutes was that ‘3 members of the public’ attended. Eventually it stopped, no doubt when they found another householder to focus on. Small village, small minded folk sadly. I’m glad that I live outside the village.
  16. In our case it wasn't individuals who complained constantly but the community council who hadn't wanted the houses built here in the first place despite being outside the village and impacting not one of them. My neighbour in the period cottage next door said that she couldn't understand why the council preferred to see it left as unkept waste ground rather than have houses built on it but there's nowt so queer as folk. The community council were constantly looking for things to complain to the main council about, whether it was someone parking outside my house to deliver something, the garage that was allowed under PD, or where my neighbours left their bins, it was a relentless campaign over a 3 year period and then they stopped. Complete waste of effort on their part.
  17. Are Chinese lights as safe as buying them from the UK? Guess I’m thinking of various warnings about Chinese phone chargers etc.
  18. Taking time is good. Taking a dozen Christmases is frustrating ?.
  19. You can buy a shower curtain with her on it. I think that may be as close as you will get ?
  20. Yes but put that it’s a wood burning stove for space heating when you send the claim form in.
  21. You can apply to the council if the plot if the plot is considered too difficult to have a level threshold I believe so clearly that’s what they did and got away with it. Either that or the BI just turned a blind eye.
  22. I have one of these as it was bought in the days before the app was available. It probably does a similar thing to the app but it is on the wall in the kitchen and I can control all rooms from it. Heatmiser TouchPad
  23. Wouldn't the SE / building inspector need to see what's down there too? I had to dig down to expose the foundations for the extension and where they joined the main house as they had been filled in before anyone looked at them. It was a pain as it meant digging down about 2 metres.
  24. Wrap with babywipes? Vaseline?
  25. Ha ha! My heating in a month would probably blow Peter's budget for the year . It's down to 17 degrees in here today. Still don't need the heating on but I am wearing a jumper . It's sunny out and I'm about to put the dryer on so it will probably warm up in a bit. For the cold folk (I'm sure they've got warm hearts ) or those with poorly insulated homes there is always the heated throw. I bought one when my boiler broke down in November and I couldn't get anyone to fix it for 6 weeks. https://www.johnlewis.com/dreamland-relaxwell-luxury-heated-throw/p3343167
