Apologies to @Onoff for a bit of a highjack.... I have now reached a point that I need to get tiling (nothing to do with the fact that @Onoff has started), tiles are chosen but like @Onoff I don't want to use rapid set adhesive cos I'm not a pro tiler, so I've found these: https://www.ctdtrade.co.uk/ardex-x-77-w-microtec-flexible-wall-floor-tile-adhesive or https://www.ctdtrade.co.uk/ardex-x-7-standard-setting-flexible-tile-adhesive First is £18/20kg and the second is £12/20kg so neither is bank breaking really. Has anyone used either of these? Floor tiles are from ctd so it would be good to get it all in one hit. thanks.

square edge boards & skim = looks great. Skimming isn't DIY for most - so £ required. taper edge & fill = can look naff if not done well. Filling can be DIY - along with lots of sanding..... Time vs cost skimming - £10/m2? + materials (not much). prob small % of overall costs?! -
coming along...... 6mm tile trowel used?

I've got one of these for the odd occasion when you need a longer one - its good, I'd buy again. A 4ft one is more useful day to day.

Ok @Nickfromwales - although our bathroom isn't a wet room and with skirting hiding the floor / wall join I'm not sure why the floor first. Is there a specific reason? Diolch

Anyone used this tile adhesive? https://www.wickes.co.uk/Norcros-Standard-Setting-Flexible-Tile-Adhesive-Grey-20kg/p/167671 I'm not a pro tiler and the longer working time does appeal to me. Thanks

I was going to do my walls first and then the floor - so any crap that flies about doesnt end up on the floor tiles - why are you doing the floor first and then the walls? Got me thinking now.....

this one 1st - https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p71005 the kit contains 10m of tape - worth the entry price, rest of stuff effectively free. Used this all up & then continued tanking using https://www.screwfix.com/p/mapei-aquadefense-waterproofing-membrane-7-5kg/8531d All good as far as I can see.

The missus wanted to shower lying down! I used the products I put in the earlier post. ?

Hi, Try Wunda. Google search them. They are supply only - you will need a plumber to install them or DIY it. Good luck.
-
I was the same - worried about it going on too thick and causing probs when tiling. No need to panic as far as my experience goes. Keep putting layers on.
-
I put at least 5 coats of tanking on - its def no more than 2mm thick. I didnt do around the valve - will put some silicone around it underneath the tile and then again with the posh cover. Coming on now Mr @Onoff.

why have you stopped?

they are old. you may find a local BM is able to help identify what was commonly used when your house was built. Concrete tiles do fade and its a heck of a job identifying them.

you shouldn't have any probs with screws / threads, at least I've never had compatibility probs in 25 years of playing at being a full time builder. -

I'd have chosen a different colour but that's down to personal preference I guess. keep slapping it on.

bit dizzy as you're working? Looks a bit too late for the stand.... I just point mine away from any walls etc

why around the toilet? if you're that poor at aiming perhaps its time to sit down when doing No1's?

my garage budget is £370/m2 - internal m2 - I've just reached that. All excl VAT. I have put on hardwood doors, there's a toilet in there, well insulated & some good quality windows. Attic trusses & velux windows upstairs and this area is all usable (workshop). Its a big 2 car garage + a smaller garage (lawnmower etc). I do have more to spend in there but I'd be surprised if I get to £400/m2. @PeterW is pretty much spot on I'd say. I don't think you would save a lot with it being attached. I suspect most sellers include the garage area in the total internal area - esp if its integrated. I don't know this for sure - why not ring some estate agents?
-
I stick to the same company for all the bits on each job - how else can you hold them responsible if it goes wrong? The tape always seems to run out - and its expensive to buy on its own. I would seal that slit and then loads of tanking over the top. I found it dried quickly (it was during that really hot spell) - so with the three areas I was doing I could just keep going until I run out of the tanking fluid.
-
I put about 5 layers on with the roller - some going horizontal & some vertical. II was worried about depth of tanking - didn't need to be.
-
I wish ours was anywhere as neat as that. Wouldn't want to be paying your labour bill though!

our garages have cost £11k each so far. Ground works done by company; Brickie did brick & block & roofers put actual roof on. The rest I've done. We do have a toilet in there which adds cost. I'd be surprised if you could do it for much less than 10K.
