Current Elec/Gas Deals + COVID-19
SteamyTea replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
@joe90 Here is my day/night split foe the year so far. The crossover is where I was using the steamer to get paint off the wall. COVID-19 is ruining my percentages. The gap is where the batteries ran out on the sensor and toy can see where I turned the storage heaters off. -
Have you run your build though @Jeremy Harris heat loss spreadsheet?

Generally speaking, the less stressed an ASHP is the more efficient it is. Why the difference? The roof lights?

You have stated the U-values for each element, but not the areas of them. I believe that separating space heating and domestic hot water us best, but not always the cheapest. Until one part of it fails, then the other but is still working. Also you need hot water all year, heating (and cooling) not so often. MVHR is not really designed for heating/cooling, if you want to do that, then oversize the ductwork, that way you can shift more air closer to the temperatures you want. PV is always good to have, ST, once the water is up to temperature, just sits there doing nothing.

Kept the US company Mobile in oil sales. -
I had some adaptors that allowed for that.

I did my apprenticeship in toolmaking, was a job for life. Well until it wasn't. -

As a few small players have failled recently, I would go with the big boys. Not sure how easy it is to find out how well financed the mid field players are, but look if you can. I suspect that we are going to see some nationalisation in the energy market. -
Once you have eliminated all possible leaks, consider mechanical ventilation, preferably with heat recovery (MVHR).

Wear Wellingtons. Each to their own.

Put a bucket by the bog. Works for my floaters (which reminds me).

When you hear about people being killed by a lavatory, it is the cistern lid falling off. Ask @DamonHD (I think) how much it hurts.

If you are keeping fresh fruit and veg in this pantry, then you need to keep the RH high. Will end up with dried fruit otherwise. Just fit a separate small air conditioning unit. KISS

18, that is 4 more than my house, and some of mine are singles.

Well a box. Pop some solar panels in the roof, then some elements in the floor. Any combustion technology is frowned on. -

Could you add another 4 by 2 below the chassis and join them up with ply. In effect make a large box section. You would have to get creative around the chassis. It would also be somewhere to stuff full of insulation. -
Ewwww

I shall start looking for an old Ford for you to store. Make enough room for a camper van, Transit based.

If you know the thermal properties of the pipe material, the wall thickness and the diameter, you can calculate the heat transfer though it. Just the same as calculating the U-Value of a wall.

Why would anyone want to encourage a bat to live in/on their house. We have all heard about the problems people have had. I like that, very Gothic.

Clamp some in place and jump on them. If it bends too much, double up to 8 by 2. -
No, effing CT 1, have you learnt nothing.
