  1. No argument from me there. According to my wife the only things that are perfect are women! I can’t argue with that!

  2. As those who have read my blog know, I have an 8.5kW Mitsubishi Ecodan and 300 litre preplumb cylinder with UFH, 155m2 slab, no buffer, no PV. I will in the next few weeks be posting on my blog in respect of how the DHW and heating have performed over the course of 12 months. DHW over the course of the year, COP of 2.3, a bit higher in summer, lower in winter. Heating COP of 3.5 No short cycling on the heat pump. Plenty of DHW capacity and fast recovery - despite continuous drawing off of DHW we have not experienced DHW running out or going cool. I did a cost comparison before deciding on the ASHP set up, including Sunamp and PV, but ASHP came out on top taking into account capital, running, service and replacement costs into account. I'll go into more detail in due course, but thought it worthwhile highlighting that an ASHP is a good solution and works well for us.

  5. Maybe an agreement to fit cctv to provide actual surveillance might allow you to apply to change the windows condition? If you wanted the tree gone then you should really have cut it down before making the application

  7. That's Okay, I have a reserve. My dad was Polish so I can have one of their passports, too, but I reckon the Poles would leave before the Irish.

  9. FWIW, I hold Irish citizenship now, and have an Irish passport, so I'm officially a dual national too. All the time I was working I was prohibited from holding dual nationality, mainly because the USA have tough rules on not sharing info outside the US/UK special relationship, but now, although I'm still constrained by the OSA, they can't stop me from holding an Irish passport. I have to say it's a great deal easier travelling with an Irish passport than it was with a UK one - it seems you get a smile from every immigration officer who sees it.

  10. If I get some spare time in the next week or two I'll have a look at knocking something up. Won't be for a while though, as we've found ourselves in the midst of a few conflicting activities, like selling our old house, officially moving to the new one (at long last) and dealing with my late mother's estate (and all the associated family conflicts that's creating).

  11. Some planning department dont accept that deep bore soakaways meet Suds. Might be worth checking. for example Norfork CC said. With regard to Sustainable Drainage (SuDS), currently we would not see deep infiltration or borehole soakaways as infiltration systems to meet the requirement as SuDS. Whilst they can provide important groundwater recharge via infiltration at depth it does not mimic the natural drainage system as would shallow infiltration. We would only expect it to be used as a final option for the location of discharge of surface water on a par with a sewer.

  12. Trying to use as much as we can of the bits and pieces to save on skip cost. 1 cannibalised gabion......some offcuts of blocks and rubble.......a pile of slate chips......some leftover cladding.........voila a bespoke garden bench!

  13. Ha! Now I know why the council got their knickers in a twist - I've just received a letter from the VOA notifying me that the property has been deleted from the valuation list, effective on 31st May. So, as I understand it, the council have no say and can ask for all the evidence they want, but it's the VOA decision that rides. Happy days.

  14. We had a deep bore soak away drilled eight years ago and the BCO wanted it at least 5m from the house. It went down 47m and turned into a well, but that's another story.

  15. Not done anything else since last night when I finished the 2nd mist coat but got in tonight (after a double shift) and took a couple of pics. Well pleased! Minor filling will have to wait until Sunday as working again today. At least I'll miss the football!

  17. Was this a HVAC engineer by any chance? I have received similar feedback about slab cooling AND my MVHR cooling. However, I cant see that either reach temperatures where condensation will form?
