Great job mate, a word if caution though..... i would not make it available on the net until you are 100% sure that its at a point where there is no outstanding reasons for guests to give you anything but a bloody good review. Your first reviews are there to stay so you want them to be good. List it on the sites but have the opening date  set for when your 100% sure the important jobs will be done. Dont leave anything to chance like assuming the new wifi router will be delivered on time........ be honest in your description and your guests will be very forgiving. Gloss over something and they will drop a bombshell that's going to leave you really annoyed. It looks great and well done, i am sure it will be a big hit and bookings will flood in. Good luck.  

Really beautifully decorated and fitted out. Could give me an excuse for a mini road trip to Skype on the bike!

You’ll have to put a link to the booking web site here, no doubt some of us might want to book it. Written whilst sat in an Edinburgh tenement Airbnb, I’d never been inside a tenement before, the room are large and the ceiling must be 14foot high.

Very good points. We still have three weeks to do the snagging. There's not really anything that can't be worked around, e.g. for internet I can run an ethernet cable down from our own house. It's going to be a busy race to the finish line though!

Definitely! Most people love a welcome pack. The basics eg tea, coffee, milk, plus something like homemade cake go down well, plus some local produce, or Scottish produce at the very least. Homemade tablet maybe? And yes, don't forget the Tunnocks! Loads of info on the web about what makes a good welcome pack (and the bad ones - eg 2 teabags and 2 sachets of UHT milk lol). 

 

I don't know what the supermarket delivery situation is on Skye but that sort of info is always helpful, plus info on local restaurants, walks etc. Maybe even a little info on the build, the construction method and some in progress photos might appeal to some? Always nice to see / read something interesting about where you are staying. 

 

The place looks fabulous. It would definitely be somewhere that would appeal to me. A couple of good reviews from your first couple of visitors and that should set you up really well. Maybe some Buildhubbers will be your first guests?

Looks lovely, the bamboo flooring looks great.  Where did you get it from?  We are going to be using it for the majority of our downstairs

 Proper Scottish shortbread is a thing to behold. Borders ginger and chocolate biscuits are a close second.

Aaaaaand we have Wifi! Writing this from the comfort of the reclining sofa. In the end I resorted to a power-link wifi extender, using an extension lead running down from my shed. Crude but it works! Will consider swapping over to something else when I get a chance, maybe something that doesn't involve running 240v cables across the garden.

How about a buried duct and run a couple of Cat5 down it from the house and just put a WiFi access point on the end of it ..?

Cat 5 and using a PoE access point for outside use. No need run a separate power cable.

That is true if that you are responsible for the filter, but if the download is onto their devices then they are responsible for the download. The law tends to turn on possession.

 

I would ask the Tourist Authority for their recommended policy, and follow that, and not provide recording devices etc.

 

Also the responsibility should be in the contract.

Assume you have unlimited data? You'd like to think people won't spend their time on Skye downloading endless data but best to prepare for it.
