Bitpipe Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Easily the most immediately satisfying job I’ve done so far - instant results. Prep was a bit of a pain - my fault for letting it get weed infested last summer. Another job down, another dozen to go... 6
Redoctober Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Looking good - we have our turf going down this week. It arrives tomorrow [Tuesday] and then again on Thursday. All 600 sq metres of it!!
Moira Niedzwiecka Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 @Bitpipe Your house looks fabulous. Turf finishes it off a treat.

Mr Punter Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Looks great, as does the paving. Are they light wells at the front?
lizzie Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Looks the bees knees well done and not just on turf!

bassanclan Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Now is the ideal time to sow seed and will look green in a couple of weeks at a fraction of the cost

Was quite weedy soil so the turf should smother that too. Plan to seed a large strip to the other side but not for a few months yet.
bassanclan Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Not a bad price, but usually at the end of a build it's all about making the savings where possible. 2kg of seed would be more than enough to cover 55sqm and cost £10 inc vat!
ToughButterCup Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Now: train the kids to mow it. Ours: " Get a ride-on and we'll think about it" Me: " OK, come and help me choose one - shop's round the corner" Silence, followed by a really fast disappearing act

I know but I paid a premium for instant gratification 1

This was probably all in the detailed turf laying handbook that the supplier meant to give me but obviously forgot. By amazing forethought (or sheer luck) the width of a sod is the same as the pavers (600mm). So didn't need to trim the sides. Some debate between landscaper and turf supplier as to whether the topsoil should come flush to the paving or an inch below - I went with a 10mm compromise. Also remembered to lay it brick bond (every alternative starter piece was 1/2 length and when coming to the end of a row, lay a full strip from the outside in and patch the gap in the middle vs have a small piece at the edge which is more likely to die. Now to water the cr@p out of it and keep children, visitors and animals off it. This grass is for looking at, not standing on. Plenty more round the back if you want to sit on something green.
Redoctober Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 After a couple of weeks of a bit here and a bit there, the turf has finally been finished. Such a difference. 6
joe90 Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Wow, you must be so pleased, mine still looks like the Somme ?. 1
