My guess is that this is wobbly render rather than loose, but do what PD suggests....a light tapping with a hammer to listen for hollow sounds. The walls should have been dubbed out and dragged straight before even considering applying the render, or it could have been an excellent candidate for external wall insulation which could have been applied and shaved nice and flat. On a scale of 1-10, that jobs a 2 or 3 at a push. If the render is sound and you dont want to redo it perhaps just move the lights. I get same effect when I mow the lawn. Looks awful in the evening when the sun is low but fine next day. Piggybagpop Posted August 29, 2022 Author Share Posted August 29, 2022 Renderer came back yesterday and told me if I wanted a proper finish I should have had it cement borded first!! I mean how can you say that after doing such a bad job! After further discussion he did say he would try and and come back and go over it on the walls where there are lights, to try and build it back up, but is that even possible?? He also said if we don't pay him for the job he has done (polite way of threatening) he has every right to come and take his job back! In other words pull it all down!! We want to pay him but surely we have the right to a decent standard of workmanship?? If he is saying cement board is the only way to get it flat, then by implication he is also saying the surface that he was presented with to apply the render to was not flat to start with. He plastered a ceiling for us, and his plaster work is spot on. ...Unfortunately, his render workwork clearly not! We Had to get it totally redone and used a company called Silk Render, to fix the mess that Go Plastering had left.
