Russdl Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 That’s got to be a ‘no’. Down-lights do highlight the imperfections but that is extreme to put it mildly. An expert will be along soon to help, I’m sure.
ProDave Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 I would go and have a poke at the sticking out bits to make sure they are still attached to the base coat and not delaminating.
saveasteading Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 That looks like my rendering skills. Except I know it is wobbly and make it rustic. My guess is that this is wobbly render rather than loose, but do what PD suggests....a light tapping with a hammer to listen for hollow sounds.
Mr Punter Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 It looks like it has been applied by a with the back of a shovel. Was the substrate reasonably flat? 1 1

Nickfromwales Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 Complete amateurs, or just careless tossers. Either way, a terrible job. The walls should have been dubbed out and dragged straight before even considering applying the render, or it could have been an excellent candidate for external wall insulation which could have been applied and shaved nice and flat. On a scale of 1-10, that jobs a 2 or 3 at a push. If they said to you, before starting, "the walls are wonky so the finish will be poor" then that's a different story? 1
PeterW Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 Bellcast isn’t straight either … but that’s pretty poor - needs to come off and start again.
Piggybagpop Posted August 13, 2022 Author Posted August 13, 2022 Daytime viewing...not that much better. This is silicone render but I guess even silicone render shouldn't finish like this??
Simplysimon Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 obviously everyone else knows but me, what's the black pipe coming out the wall? i've an idea but....

Temp Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 Those lights are illuminating the render at a very shallow angle. If the render is sound and you dont want to redo it perhaps just move the lights. I get same effect when I mow the lawn. Looks awful in the evening when the sun is low but fine next day.

Piggybagpop Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 Renderer came back yesterday and told me if I wanted a proper finish I should have had it cement borded first!! I mean how can you say that after doing such a bad job! After further discussion he did say he would try and and come back and go over it on the walls where there are lights, to try and build it back up, but is that even possible?? He also said if we don't pay him for the job he has done (polite way of threatening) he has every right to come and take his job back! In other words pull it all down!! We want to pay him but surely we have the right to a decent standard of workmanship?? Any comment would be grately appreciated as we are feeling bullied by this and is isn't a nice feeling
markc Posted August 29, 2022 Posted August 29, 2022 Bordered or bonded? No idea what cement border is but if he said bonded then that's a load of crap! It’s not falling off so bonding isn’t a problem, it’s just not flat or straight.
Piggybagpop Posted August 29, 2022 Author Posted August 29, 2022 Cement board I meant. I think he is saying that is the only way, to put cement board first to have the perfect finish.

If he is saying cement board is the only way to get it flat, then by implication he is also saying the surface that he was presented with to apply the render to was not flat to start with. More information and pictures before the render went on?

Piggybagpop Posted February 18, 2023 Author Posted February 18, 2023 The guy who did the bad work is Go Plastering. He plastered a ceiling for us, and his plaster work is spot on. ...Unfortunately, his render workwork clearly not! We Had to get it totally redone and used a company called Silk Render, to fix the mess that Go Plastering had left. Here are the before and after pics.. 1
