It was only with the introduction of new Building Regs in maybe 2013/2014 that the RHI payment was linked to the as built SAP in NI, before that Ala Declan it was based on the design SAP which could use crazy defaults for Air tightness etc to massively increase the heat requirement. I'm not even 100% how they did it with the commercial side of things but it must have been a finger in the air/blank cheque job.
-
They are just showing their hand i think. The scheme was never really intended for Domestic but they kind of had to pass it on to the peasants. If the commercial scheme is gone there is no way they will give money to home owners. They are more likely to put an extra tax on pellets etc, when all the dodgy businesses have stopped running their boilers to get the home owners to pay back the money. I would like to think they will fine the fraudulent businesses but i can see a big lobby for them, and they will get a slap on the wrists and a small fine compared to what they got out of it. You cant risk putting a business under, but you better pay your TV Licence.

As they saying goes, the dogs on the street could have told you that! An absolute joke, given that the RHI scheme was open for Commercial 2 years before domestic, these issues must have been so blindingly obvious. But then who benefited along with the dodgy farmers and factories?

We have a site toilet... At last.

Jaysus, i thought them shower toilets were bad! -
yeah its a common thing. PIR Thermal conductivity - 0.022 PUR Thermal conductivity - 0.021 So if you do the calculations you might be lucky to get a 5% improvement and it will be double the price for PUR over PIR.

I had a sample dropped out. I know the Local Rep so he sent me a few photos etc of installations he did. If you want to send me your email address i'll forward them on to you. I didn't end up going with it as i got a great deal on natural slate which actually worked out slightly cheaper than the snowdons. Although the fitting will be more expensive it think.

Indeed, a fine looking house. And a green eyed monster over here! Best of Luck with the last few bits and good health to enjoy it!

This is the bit that i would be very pissed off about. Did you give them permission to forward your details onto a 3rd Party? Is it even legal for them to do that? Now you are open to unwanted sales calls based on the actions of these Building Merchants. I don't really care about the insulation companies that much. There are plenty of firms selling less than advertised products, its buyer beware, which is why i find this forum and its members invaluable. For example there are loads of cheap ASHPs on ebay quoting a COP of 5, these are around 1K for a 16kw (non inverter) ASHP, but thanks to the information and advice given here i know there is no way this could be true so i should take everything else this person says with a pinch of salt. Trust is a big thing to a self builder, you are literally putting your entire self into something and if you are put in a position where your trust is lost, then its gone and you are passionate about trying to inform other people. Its the same reason you are passionate about the product you have chosen, and why you feel compelled to defend it. Thats all great, everyone here just wants everyone else to be able to learn from their experiences and benefit from their passions.

Rust potentially?

I would take their advice and work away. The house will dry out, and as they say, it will be weather tight in jig time so shouldn't suffer any real damage

Great Result.

GSE Solar Panel Trays - Order of Install?
DeeJunFan replied to Barney12's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
I'm not sure what brand of In-Roof they are talking about to be honest. Getting it difficult to get information from them as the Boss is Seriously ill at the moment. -
If it were me, id just go with standard blocks (should be much cheaper, but you guys get screwed on block prices) and the cheapest version of the PIR. You shouldn't have any issues with the UFH, just get the longer clips, as @Nickfromwales suggests.

GSE Solar Panel Trays - Order of Install?
DeeJunFan replied to Barney12's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
I'm currently trying to sort out this particular problem. What battens are you getting? Counter battens - 2*2 or 2*1 Slate battens - 2*1 My PV guys are saying they would just come and fit everything and then the roofer can take over. But i'm not sure about that. -
Have you considered Terrazzo? There is a guy close to me that does it. But i'm sure there are guys all over. It was even on Grand Designs http://terrazzoireland.co.uk/

NIE Connection Question Does anyone have any idea how they measure distance from nearest point of connection? If it's over 200 meters they require a full survey and that can take up to 3 months. Is it nearest pole to my meter box? Or site boundary? Or could there be some point at a junction box along the road where I could get a connection? I have attached a measurement from the NIE site and it looks like on a straight line from pole to meter box is 203 m. Are they super strict?

there is also the added expense of being able to actually program our KNX system. Form what i remember you have to buy a software type package that is pretty steep in order to get your equipment to do what you want it to. If it were me id try my hand at something like openhab or even just a simple Zwave system like vera could do most of what you are looking for. They also have larger communities to ask for help.

This sounds interesting, I can almost hear the sharp intake of breath from my plumber!

Have you priced the difference in the EPS v PIR? I was looking for 200mm of PIR v 300mm of EPS and the EPS was coming out more expensive for the same u-value. Perhaps there are more reasonable prices for EPS over there but I was shocked by the quotes I got back.

If you have it use it!
