Solar PV - electricity bill reduction
DeeJunFan replied to Shell820810's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
Yeah, it think it works that when the PV is generating then you use it and your meter doesn't count it. So you may have had any extra few thousand units on the meter. -
Hi Michelle, Glad to see you back. I'm hoping you have gained enough knowledge and expertise that you can answer all my questions! We are just waiting on our roof trusses so hoping to have them up in the next week or two. Get a few pics of the gaff up! Damian

Well with at least 4 more years of a tory gov. Id say there is no chance in the medium term of FIT going back up. Will labour stand a chance at the next election with JC at the helm? I'll wait for the results of the EU Ref first before comment. Labour would likely be better placed to revive the system but there isn't great love for it in Brussels or so i've been told so hard to know if it will ever return. You'd think with all the fines that will be hitting govt over the next 10 years because of failed emission targets they would pull the finger out instead of going backwards. And if you are going DIY install there are much cheaper systems on ebay!

I was thinking of running the whole show off the one tank. So UFH & DHW from the same tank. I have no idea of the volume of water that would go through the UFH system, and the hotpress plumbers over here aren't keen on consultations. This was a thread i had started on the Pro/cons of ASHP over Immersion http://www.ebuild.co.uk/topic/18673-ashp-or-immersion/page__hl__deejunfan I'm keeping an eye on the ASHP scenario for a possible bargain, but was going to see how things went going straight direct electric for both UFH & DHW with the PV as additional input. I had done another thread on possible setup but cant find it now. I'm happy enough to add a 12kw in-line booster as Jeremy has and also some In-line heaters at wash hand basins to reduce DHW demand and dead legs. So fingers crossed 500L would be enough. And it wont cost a fortune to heat the water!

Extra length cavity wall ties for wide walls
DeeJunFan replied to Fallingditch's topic in Brick & Block
There is an Irish company called vartry engineering. They specialise in wide cavity ties. I was quoted about .70 cent for 200mm cavity ties. So about 55p each. -

My parents just got the imprinted concrete in and i dont fancy the look of it. Or the price. I haven't really looked into it but could see whats around Also looked at the resin bond at the self build show but its unreal expensive, and you need concrete or tarmac to put it on

Hello, You decided to stick with Temp. Suppose it's tradition now!

Does the same apply for Thermal store? Or do they not require EV? (Cue head slap) Would you suggest TS or UVC? I'm also wanting to future proof to some degree in case i get a good deal on an ASHP at some stage. So i will need a coil, so DIRECT option would be out? Thanks D

That's great, thanks So being tight space wise shouldn't be that much of an issue. Ok to put expansion vessels in front of the tank as high as possible? Had a look on the website, and there are no Thermal Stores listed, prices are there for the UVC. No dimensions though. Thanks for that! Much appreciated

I had checked the way back machine but it doesn't have a lot of the thread contents, so i doubt it would have the attachments.

Genius, Thanks for that. So with standard insulation it's 660mm (should be ok in my 850mm hotpress) Would I be able to stretch to say an extra 50mm leaving it 760mm in diameter? Or would the 500L tank be bigger from the start? Thanks

Does anyone have permission on the old forum to view attachments? I was trying to get a sketch shell820810 put up of her tank to check the dimensions.

Love the shed. When i eventually get the house built this is next on my hit list. Somewhere to call my own. Every other place i though was going to be mine is now not mine. I should have known better! Silly Daddy pig (Peppa pig reference) (Just in case you were wondering)

Decky said all the windows had the inner skin higher than the cill. And the kitchen one has the wonky cill but you cant see that from the photo. I'll try and get close up pics of them and add to this.

slow going is right but rewarding. Hard to keep the motivation up though! This place helps

I ask everyone, even the guy i'm ordering stones/sand from. And they aren't really all that expensive. I managed a great discount on my blocks, which id say has saved me over 1000. I bluff if needs be. Ring a supplier i want to use and tell them i have a price from another supplier and see what happens. They either match it or they don't At least you have given it a go

Hello Build Hub! First Blog entry in our new home. So things have stalled quite a bit over the last few months. Block layers have left site as they don't want to do the peaks without roof supports. Trusses have been measured up wrong which has caused some amount of delays. Also having issues sourcing scaffolding but finally have that issue resolved. Just need to get the scaffolding to site. There have also been some issues with our window cills. Got measured up for windows and window rep informed me that the cills weren't level one side of the cill being closer to the DPC and the other being further into the cavity. This would lead to some potential issues for water ingress and air tightness so needs to be rectified before anything else gets done. There is also an issue with the height of the inner blockwork at the cills. The inner blocks are currently sitting around 5-10mm higher than the cill level so these need to be cut down a bit. Hopefully there is nothing too major required to sort this out. I also have some threads up about a potential problem with our hotpress (its only 850mm wide) and also possible solution to our 3m sunroom opening (Pivot door) This is how the house currently looks. There has also been a rather large wall built to retain my parents garden and line our driveway. This gives my parents a much bigger garden as this was previously a rather large bank. Oh and my father built a temporary staircase, just means we wont have to be up and down ladders. Also should save the proper stairs, as we wont need them in as soon.
