  1. post the video when you do it. How will it cope with insulation? A dwang at a plasterboard joint?
  2. Electricians cable fish rods are what you need.
  3. That gap looks a small fraction of the channel thickness. Are you SURE the channel won't just pull in and flex enough to fill that gap?
  4. We are living in our unfinished new build. Circumstances did not pan out as we planned so we are currently very slowly finishing the house as we live in it.
  5. I used engineered Oak floor boards for my door frames. The only "tool" I used (apart from the usual spirit level etc) was a spare stick of wood cut to 6mm longer than the door was wide, to set the gap as you fix the door frame into place.
  6. Since he is obviously happy with bodged, rubbish work, put some spacers under the screws in the middle and empty a tube of silocone sealant in the gap.
  7. The channel is there to allow for non plumb walls etc. There is usually a lot of tolerance in fitting the screen into the channel so then get the screen plumb, even if the channel is not. Are you saying the amnount of bend exceeds the depth of the channel so that won't work?
  8. Some people keep their homes like that. I did some work in a house that was so disgusting that I looked at the loo, and crossed my legs instead, and I only wanted a pee. I later found out the guy was a nurse at the local hospital, I hope his hygiene at work is vastly better than at home.
  9. We paid Band A council tax as soon as we moved into the caravan. The bin men empty our bins just like everyone elses. I told the story of the council tax sniooper. I believe he had visited the site every month to see if there was any sign of anyone living in the caravan. When we eventually did move in and I phoned to tell them, he said "let me get the file, yes I have a picture of your caravan, and I have visited the site, let me see, 17 times so far" You would not get away with it here for long living in it without paying council tax.
  10. Usually there is a channel that screws to the wall into which the screen then fits. Can he not bend that channel to match the wall, or at least get close before the screen goes into the channel? I wonder if he just unscrewed the screen + channel complete and previously it bowed the other way?
  11. So they will refund the £0 VAT I paid on my free dishwasher then.
  12. 55mm on mine, defined by the handle set.
  13. You are not even constrained by building regs as it is an old house. I would fit them to match the rest in the house.
  14. The ducting kit was twice the cost of our ebay mvhr unit. In the case of ours, a Kingspam / Mitusbishi unit, the bypass diverts the exhaust air around the heat exchanger core. So like that, supply air will not be heated by the exhaust air, so will come into the house at outside temperature. So for example today it's 21 degrees in the house, but only 15 outside so the cooler air coming in will cool the house a little. I will eventually connect the control for that to a room thermostat in a bedroom, so if the bedrooms start getting too hot it will automatically turn summer bypass on.
  15. In my case the first condition of the planning permission was we must form the entrance from the highway to the plot before building commenced. I confirmed with he council once we had done that, that it constituted "starting" the development. So in our case, that alone locked in the planning permission.
  16. If they are stopping the roof from spreading, they would be in tension, so could be doing quite a lot. How much are you hoping to raise the ceiling, or do you not want a ceiling just open right to the ridge?
  17. Only that it confirms there is no ridge beam.
  18. That looks like an A frame roof. Those cross member ceiling beams are probably what stops the roof spreading. I don't see a ridge beam. You would need a design by a structural engineer to alter the roof possibly by inserting a ridge beam or purlins to support the roof.
  19. What's the estimated timescale. How many pages will this thread run to?
  20. The trouble with that is lending policies change, That would be no guarantee. Like some years ago we wanted new windows in a rental flat. I went to see the bank (black horse) and they said yes no problem to a small extension to the already small mortgage on the property. So I booked the windows, and paid the deposit. When I went back 2 weeks before the windows were due to do the paperwork, the computer blew a raspberry at us "you no longer meet the lending criteria" If they were the last bank standing I would not give them any of my business again for treating us like that.
  21. As long as the consumer unit is not right behind the sink there is no problem.
  22. We keep one set of spare towels in the vanity unit under the basin. Everything else will get stored in the airing cupboard, when I get around to building it. That has always been where we keep towels etc.
  23. I got an ebay mvhr unit for under £500 and the ducting, vents and plenums was about £1000 from BPC, self installed.
  24. Grant make a combined oil boiler and heat piump.
  25. Another vote for Multipanel. I got mine from Jewsons (a LOT cheaper than the rip off prices certain bathroom stores were quoting, and more local to me). They have loads of samples of all the different colours so you can see what they really look like. And as above, do NOT use their bottom edge trim. I just finished the panel a few mm above the tiles. Sealed the gap with stixall, then a bead of silicone to make it look nice.
