  1. Sorry, I ain't getting it. So a contractor, that say incurrs a cost of £250 for a job quote, but only gets one from four jobs they quote on, then has to charge an additional £1000 to cover that "apparent" quote time cost. So who is it that pays the £1000? Is this whacked onto the next person that says yes? I'm assuming you mean something different, but I'm unsure what exactly.
  2. I admire your patience. I do agree with you however and I feel "acceptable repairs" are not viable on this.
  3. One or two very slight errors or incorrect cuts is one thing, (although still not really acceptable on a quality bespoke product) but that has far too many issues to be tolerable. Anything puncturing or severely marking the visible faces is just not on, not at all. It needs to "look" perfect. You absolutely must not pay anything for this, and whatever you "might" have paid by way of deposit, you should seek a refund. Whether it's the first time the person has made this type of product or not is irrelevant, they have accepted the job and are seeking to charge you for it, therefore, it needs to stand up to any reasonable competitors work. It isn't difficult to argue it does not do that. The problems this displays appear to be so easily avoided too, so my question would be why weren't they?
  4. Yeh, with broken teeth
  5. Looks like it was "machined" by someones team of pet beavers. Absolutely unacceptable
  6. I have to admit, that if any contractor I was considering for a job gave me the "take it or leave it" approach, it would be the last thing I listened to him tell me.
  7. I think from the replies above, it might be more productive to use the search facility and read through old threads.
  8. Mike Scotland, have a browse of the flooring forum..... here.... https://theflooringforum.com/forums/vinyl-impervious-floor-coverings.105/
  9. Yeh this 100%. It will do the job perfectly well and will allow you to focus attention on other more important aspects of your project. The stuff about MDF leaching toxins is going a bit far, and once sealed on all edges and painted, it's fine. If you use any other material (as in timber) and want to paint it, you'll need to ensure the moisture content is 10% max, otherwise you may see movement over time.
  10. Can you not dam up the threashold to shower room and have slightly reduced screed levels in there? The guys doing the install can surely set their levels to say approx 20mm lower cant they?
  11. Sent you a PM Peter. Not sure itll be of any help, but thought I'd suggest it.
  12. Are they PVC, aluminium or something else?
  13. Thanks for the info on that. I found it depends what version it is as to whether it looks overly fake..ish The spacia range from amtico has a fairly unrealistic grain texture, so in certain light, it does look fake yes. Even their signature range is somewhat like it, but it's better. They have a range that sits between those though called "form" and some of that range is incredibly realistic, with a very good textured surface. The one thing I was less sure of was the colour tone, which did look a little too consistent. But it's very good stuff. The Karndean product (Van Gogh) also has a very good texture, which follows all the grain marking. The colour on it though is super realistic, and it was that which swayed my own decision.... See here..... https://www.karndean.com/en-gb/floors/products/warm-brushed-oak-vgw121t
  14. No, not difficult to do, but probably less straightforward to get it done really well. I feel I could probably do it no bother as I'm very good with my hands, but in truth, it's more cost and time effective to let pros do it. I know itll be perfect when they have.
  15. If you want an image of it like that, PM me and ll pass you on a mobile number and will send you some via WhatsApp. I had some sent to me by the guys that'll be doing my own place. I want it laid straight, but in certain places, angled works well
  16. Can you fit at an angle?....45° That may overcome directional dilemma
  17. Changes in board orientation always looks wrong. I'd seriously consider which way you can, or should do it and be sure before committing. Also, when speaking of scratches etc, wood flooring, whether it be solid boards or engineered, they all mark. Furthermore, wooden surfaces once marked or worn tend to discolour in a way that vinyl doesn't, even though some sun bleaching can occur on both. Unfortunately there is no perfect solution. Tiles are great if you have ufh, but if not, they will always feel cold. Tiles = coldest... timber = next coldest, vinyl = next and carpet = least. You pay your money and take your pick.
  18. I was discussing lvt's with same retailer above, and mentioned that to me, Amtico felt like a harder surface. I also said I'd tried a bit of a scratch test on two sample planks and that the Amtico definitely proved more difficult to mark. This was on Amtico Form V Karndean Van Gogh. Problem is, I preferred the colouring on the Karndean product, so that's the choice (although not from said supplier) Time will tell, but I'm not planning on giving it a hard life.
  19. What was your finding on it Simon?
  20. I was at a retailer that sells the product, and he actually said ......"it will scratch, especially if you walk about in shoes that might have chips of stone stuck in the soles of them, or if you drag a fridge around on it" We will see, but it might be a long wait for any damage report.
  21. To provide a bit of a wider perspective on lvt......
  22. Was it already scratched when you moved in or was it scratched during your own use? What kind of colour was it?
  23. Including the ply fit and feather edging to prep, then to supply and fit of the Van Gogh, its perhaps about right. You could be paying more with some retailers. It's not a cheap choice, and especially not when you get good fitters on it. The prep needs to be spot on, so not worth scrimping on it. Having said that, it's a fairly large area, so maybe haggling it down is possible. I have a kitchen of approx 45 metres of Karndean vg planned, which is going to cost £61 per metre. There is no ply in that price, but they are prepping with levelling compound.
