Zinc angled standing seam.
Makeitstop replied to Makeitstop's topic in House Extensions & Conservatories
The quotes I've received are not £3k no. Best I've had, although granted, I've only had a few, was £50 under £4k and that's ex VAT. And no, that doesn't include any build up or prep, which is expected to be "by others". So, I'm looking at £5k more or less to clad that piece as you see it. Absolutely no way I will consider spending that. -

Hi Russ, Well, yes, by the time the sliders (3 metres wide by std height) are removed from the area to be clad, I'm looking at perhaps 15 sq metres tops, plus of course the required copings to parapet wall. Would you say £3k is expensive? Curious... -

Not sure if I've uploaded this ok, but this provides an idea of scale of the cladding I mention above. As can be seen, this is a small extension of approx 6.5 metres wide by 3.5 metres deep. The zinc element was considered simply to break to horrendous expanse of brick at the rear of the building. Anyone want to guess what this zinc work could cost. Vertical cladding plus capping to parapet. design.pdf -

@ gc100.... lovely looking job that. Thanks for replying to my thread. How long ago was this done for you? -

Well, the job I'm considering cladding for is very small, and so that's perhaps why I've had (what appears to me) outrageous quotes on price. @ £130 per metre, I'd be fairly happy. But the quotes I've had are not even remotely near that. I kind of get the impression that as soon as zinc is mentioned to an installer, they can only hear...kerching! It sort of feels that if you enquire about using the stuff, everyone feels you are willing, to fling wads of money at your project. -

I thought £80 per sq mtr sounded competitive. Was that a favourable rate via connection or was it their usual rates? Was the work done within the last few years Russdl? -

That sounds like a very good price for VM anthra, although I guess you're talking of a few hundred metres of coverage overall yes? -

@ Gus potter... Interesting points. Have to admit however, whoever I do get to tackle this should be aware of the details you mentioned I'd hope. This is not going to be DIY at all. I would like to achieve as flat as possible a finish with it, so there is certainly a way to achieve that I'm sure. If I am going to end up paying a fair chunk of cash to use such a product, I want to get the best from it. @ Russdl.... If you do manage to get an approx per mtr costing for your job, I'd be keen to hear it. Can PM me with that if preferred. Also, an indication on the time they spent in doing it would be appreciated. From what I can gather from initial checks, it doesn't seem like the most cost effective choice of finish. It appears all the cost is wrapped up in paying the installers, as the material price is not that bad imo. -

Sounds like an interesting project. A cost per metre would be absolutely fantastic, thanks Russ. Feel free to send an image too. I like the darker zincs a lot. -
Hi all, I am planning to add a smallish single story kitchen extension to my home and within the design there is a zinc cladding element to the rear and part of one side facade. Has anyone used zinc in their project and if so, are you glad you used it and are you still pleased with the finished product? I am aware there are alternative products such as greencoat etc, but this question is specifically aimed at zincs. Also, if anyone knows what it ended up costing per sq metre, along with approximate areas, that would be interesting too. Thanks all.

Is this something you've had direct experience of to tonyshouse, or do your views come from some professional capacity?

My plan does have a parapet wall, so I'm curious to know what any problems people have had with them may be. In the design I have, the plan is to use zinc copings fabricated to suit, as there is an element of zinc (maybe PLX) cladding to part of the rear wall and part of one side wall. I liked the idea of the parapet as it offers some aesthetic appeal in limiting the visibility of the roof light / lights.

Haha, Oh, like that is it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. @ Nod.... What is the overall dimension of your roof in the image, and was this a contractor job or DIY, how long has it been on, and, are you pleased with it overall? @ Joe90 and Steamytea... do you have any of this on your current properties and if so, I ask you the same as above to Nod. @ Tonyshouse... Why Asphalt.?... Why not flat roof (obviously not dead flat) and why not parapet walls, especially if done properly.? Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with PVC.?...such as Armourplan?

Hi folks, Choice for single story extension, epdm, grp or pvc? From experiences of those who have used or fitted, which one and why? Would appreciate hearing any views on it. Thanks all.

Bridgend area, where covid is currently running riot. To me, using separate trades makes sense, as it allows me to choose who I'm happy to have working on things here, and here and there I can trim the vat hopefully. My plot is a little tricky as it has to be piled. I've done a fair bit of research into that already, so have some ideas on what's likely to be needed. What it'll all cost is still a bit uncertain, but my proposed area is fairly small, as what I'm planning is only 6.3m x 3.5m. I'm sure it'll be a headache, but hopefully worth it at the end.

Thanks Gareth, appreciate it. As yet, nothing has started by way or actual "work". I've recently had planning granted, and am waiting to speak to architect and structural guy about steelwork for rear wall that'll be coming out. It's a lot to have to consider and plan out. Not sure yet whether to use single contractor or separate trades, so will no doubt be hassling folks here for views on it all.

Hi everyone. Brand new and registered here following scanning through many threads. Planning a rear kitchen extension sometime this year and am likely to be seeking advice of others with more knowledge. Hoping that some of you folks with experience are willing and able to share tips / advice. Thanks all.
