  1. @Nickfromwales we are lucky in NE Scotland ... we don't have problems with cold gas...... I wish. Seriously the dewalt hits the mark but it's over 1kg heavier than the paslode..... takes it toll over a days work. But I wouldn't swap it .
  2. Wow nick.... that looks straight out of corgi's (sorry gas safes ) bamf pr. This is a VERY grey area. To undertake gas work you have to be a competent, this opens up a hell of a lot of grey.... when I was renewing my corgi there was a group of companies that refused to pay their subscription to corgi but were "competent" ie passed their exams.... I don't know how it ended..... but next year I paid lots of money to gas safe..... who let's be honest .... wore a bigger balaclava than corgi. FOR THE RECORD GET THE APPROPRIATE GAS SAFE SIGNATURE ! Few that's me clear (new year's resolution stay off internet after a few drams..... )
  3. I can't remember the last power cut we had so for having a gas hob for the back up argument doesn't really stack up but I likea the option to cook by gas. Although it's just a single gas wok burner we will mainly cook by electric induction.
  4. Just bought the 1st fix one. Pretty happy with it. A bit bigger than the paslode equivalent.
  5. I'm the plumber (that's going to come back to haunt me)??? we left a long tail to get up behind the kitchen units to upstairs where we will have a compression fitting into copper pipe. As long as it's one length ie no fittings it's fine in concrete, if you need fittings in the concrete then it gets complicated. Remember it's compression fittings on to the gastite pipe and they need to be accessible at a later date.
  6. Yeah gastite pipe is good. We run one in our slab to the island. You don't need to sleeve it. Keep a eye on eBay as you often get off cuts but the fittings are very expensive.
  7. After reading a few threads on fire sprinkler systems on ebuild, I thought I would start a new thread over here. Although I have not had it part of my building warrant, I like the idea of a sprinkler system. I then came across the uponor aquasafe system. I think this simplifies the installation and keeps the cost down. Am I getting carried away to even considering a sprinkler system? I did read Wales was going to make it mandatory for residential new builds a few years ago, what ever happened to this? http://www.uponor-usa.com/residential-fire-safety/ahj/how-aquasafe-works.aspx I also found a usa seller willing to ship the system to UK. My idea was to use mlcp pipe as used in my domestic water side but upgrade my insulation to class O insulation such as armaflex.
  8. Is that price inc vat? That's a very good price.
  9. We better get a move on and get the icf poured before the weekend!
  10. Still scratching my head over mvhr. i was eyeing up the lossnay units but I am a bit cautious of the paper heat exchanger for showers etc. I came across the LG units (similar efficiency to the mitsubishi unit 77-79%) , I think these could tick the boxes and save a lot of cash over the normal suppliers. Has anybody any dealings, LG is a brand I trust so must be half decent? http://www.orionairsales.co.uk/lg-air-conditioning-eco-v-heat-recovery-ventilator-306-c.asp
  11. I finally bite the bullet & bought a dewalt 1st fix nailer. is there any recommendations for cheap suppliers of nails (no gas needed).
  12. Currently using the old dewalt 18v xrp kit (drill, recip saw, circular saw, torch) bought on American eBay. apart from changing brushes on drill, bought more batteries and replaced the bulbs in the torch it has been faultless. only reason i am looking at the new battery style dewalt tools as I fancy the battery nail gun(no gas) and auto feed screw driver for plaster boarding. we are pretty hard on tools and used them daily for 6 years for day job.
  13. Plastic slates..... yes or no? Any opinons/first hand experience welcome.
  14. Welcome. we are building just a few miles from you in Peterhead.
  15. Not any good for direct of a heat pump but if you're trying to control the flow temp from a buffer tank/thermal store then this would do the job:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MIXER-THERMOSTATIC-ESBE-VTA-572-1-M-20-43-C-HEATING-28924-/142172210291?hash=item211a1fc473:g:eLkAAOxyCTtTdxgs I was hoping to bin the UFH mixer/ zone actuators and pump and have just one pump between the tank and manifold and use the above valve controlled by one stat UFH pipes go in tomorrow

  19. Shop about! We bought our eps for the insulated raft from southern ireland start of the year for my parents build, we are looking to buy my eps shortly and is working out pence cheaper per m2 .
  20. We are hoping to start the icf on my parents next week. it better do what's it says as the boiler is already bought..... we never bothered with the nudara course as we where busy but we done the quadlock course which was very interesting.
  21. my biggest head ache with ICF is from my architect and my old engineer. My archiectect has been very slow to accept ICF and my old structural engineer was a nightmare to a point he turned around and asked "what do you know? ". I am based in aberdeenshire and my new structural engineer is in Cork. So first of i would make sure everybody was 100% behind the project. I believe ICF is good for hands on self builder or if you can find a contractor WITH experience but if you are relying on a local builder with no experience to put it up then i would think twice. If you break it down in to £m3 cost for the insulation (eps, xps etc) and some nylon ties as a product its way over priced! At the end of the day its just permanent concrete shuttering thats also insulation. Each icf manufacturer has their own unique points ie support during build or a slight design difference over their competitors . I choose nudara for the first build (parents) but i have held off ordering for my build just to see how things go. Up to now i am very happy with nudara. I also think it matches very well with a highly insulated raft foundation such as the kore system. Where abouts in Scotland are you located?
  22. I believe you can use the plastic pipe between the meter and the appliance, tbh nobody even gas safe registered engineers should be running in/altering pipes etc before the meter only the gas network people (in our area they are a company called scotia network).
  23. what kind of filters are on the mitsubishi unit? are they washable?
  24. Its been a while since i run in gas pipe outside but i believe you can use plastic. something like:- https://www.plastics-express.co.uk/gas-service-pipe-fittings/gas-mains/gas-pipe-20mm-x-50m-coil-p-pw382?kw=pla-88869316890&fl=1000&ci=43648358370&network=pla&gclid=CMqroZ2zrtACFcFAGwodXnAG2Q another option is keep a eye on ebay for a cutting of flexible stainless gas pipe ie tracpipe or gastite etc but fittings for this can be expensive aswell.
