    No, just a wee battery powered low current valve, switched by a motion sensor. this kinda thng, but I'm looking for one with adjustable timing.     I'm considering using a urinal PIR sensor/valve to dump the contents of the line to drain when you walk in.

    I'm of that mind that if you don't let it run CONTINUOUSLY for about three days you don't actually know what it's doing. Cost and noise be darned, at least you could say you'd done it then.

    the insulating powder in the elements is hygroscopic. Same with Pyro cable.

    Is the meter connected the right way round? the LED should flash during the day and be on constant overnight.

    I wonder... if the thermostat controller thingy is in the small room with the cylinder etc in, could the systems fuzzy logic be incorrectly presuming the heatup time/ energy input for the rest of the house? As in, using the weather compensation etc it's dialling back the flow temperature because of the rate-of-rise in the room with the 'stat in...

    If the rad is really undersized, how do you kow that the rad + oilfilled heater really *is* enough heat for the room? Just do the measuring we're asking for.

    put one of your thermometers on the flow and return from the "boiler" box thingy.

    loss through (new, insulated?) pipes is very small compared to that of each radiator. Sadly you have *no idea* of the 55c bit, and age is nothing to do with it. That's why we want you to actually measure it. Maybe the flow temperature sensor in the unit is duff and reading 10deg out? YOU DON'T KNOW YET.
