Its at 4 bar now so should be leaking something I would have thought. I guess the opposite could also be true and it is only leaking below a certain pressure also! I m going to assume its ok and keep an eye on it. Final floors upstairs are nt going down for a few weeks or so, although I will be pastering beneath so any significant leak will make a bit of a mess.
-
Well been back, plumbers were on site and put pressure up to 4 bar this morning, its now at 5.
-
I ll head out and lunchtime and spend some time flushing through each zone individually.
-
It could possibly be this - I ll leave it a day or so and see what happens, its just frustrating not being able to carry on with the build upstairs until I know. In a way, it would be easier if it was leaking so at least I could get the floor ripped up and get it sorted. I guess if it was a leak then pressure should drop steadily to zero, and at a relatively steady rate.
-
Ok, more intrigue... Pressure has dropped about half a bar or so this morning - may be as expected given the temperature drop over night. However, next door which I have built identically, is sat at 6 bar, the same as it has been everyday this week.
-
Ok, fingers crossed its at pressure in the morning when I check it....

Presumably a leak leak would more than offset any increase in pressure due to temperature and I should see a pressure drop? Summarising events so far..... Earlier in in the week tested the ufh with air and pressure was dropping, no idea where so we filled with water and after 24 hrs it had become apparent from the drips where it was (Chippie had put a nail through it). Pipe changed on this run on Friday afternoon and re pressured to 3 or so bar. I looked Friday night and it had lost half a bar, and another half a bar over night by Saturday morning, hence thinking another leak. Saturday morning I connected it to the mains and left it connected so it kept it topped up with the intention any leak would become apparent. Left it til Saturday night, at which point I left it disconnected and pressurised to 4 bar. This morning it was at 4 bar, and tonight it was at 5. All of the above was with air vent open. I have just closed it off. So, leak or no leak!?
-
Had nt really considered the air vent. Have just popped to site to drop some stuff off and close the air vent. Weirdly my pressure has increased from 4 to almost 5 bar since this morning? Temperature increase in the pipe during the day (it's been quite nice here today)?? Makes me now think no leak - very odd!

Not sure they inspect self build vat claims - I could be wrong, but have never head of one
-
Well I just checked now and the pressure is unchanged at 4 bar. Odd. I guess it could have been air in system explaining the drops I saw on Friday/Saturday? No water showing anywhere as I found wth the other hole.
-
Might be worth a try - your thinking probing into the osb decking from below? I ll go and get one of these from work.... http://www.euroheat.co.uk/Accessories/Misc2/13/Wood-Moisture-Meter

Well I ve left it connected to the mains all day and no sign of where it's leaking so looks like it's all coming up monday at this rate. unfortunately I think the valves on the manifolds let by slightly so I don't seven seem to be able to narrow it down to a zone.
-
My chippies have managed to screw through my ufh pipes upstairs. Found first one but still dropping pressure and no obvious signs of where it is. Looks like all of the chipboard will have to be taken up Monday.... Grrrrr

How long did it take to set up your system?
-
Yes, my tillers recommended putting something down under the corex because they can make it sweat and mark the tiles. You can get 150m2 of dust sheets off ebay for £80 though, and I m then going to lay the corex on top.

Cant say about the discount to trade or not, I think I must have blagged it. Jack, you still have nt told me how far from Hereford you live and what your doing next month!!
-
I think it's £400 for the 3 day course. I think (although they may have changed it recently) that you get additional discount if you go the course. I calculated that the additional discount would cover the course cost.

I read somewhere that passivhaus (ie. 0.6 ach) equates to an opening area the size of a 5p for every 5m2, where as building control figure equates to an area the size of a 20p piece for every 1m2.
-
Yes they ve been trying to get me on the course but with a full time job and the house build, I simply don't have time to go on a training course for three days. My electrician is very good and has a lot of experience of control panel wiring so hopefully this element is covered, then it's down to me. Worst cast I was thinking I could get someone in to help but whether any home automation company is interested when they have nt supplied me the kit and charged me a small fortune l, I m not sure. How far from Hereford are you??

Insulation for internal stud walls and above ceilings??
Trw144 replied to IanR's topic in Sound Insulation
Just reading that about posi joists and reference fire regs, am I reading correctly in that I don't need fire hoods over my down lights given I have 250mm posi joist, above which I have 22mm osb, 25mm insulation, 22mm chipboard and then final floor coverings? i was going to lay 100mm insulation between posi joists for sound insulation anyway. -
Doing a few jobs at the house earlier and found a bloody shower drain I had nt taped up - anyone have any idea how much effect this would have? Guessing its 40mm diameter waste.

I ve got all my Loxone kit in the garage and waiting to be installed imminently - basically controlling blinds, lighting, heating, burglar alarm, solar thermal, music, garage door, entrance gates. I would say all in its going to cost around £7k on the kit, but that includes 18 speakers, 12 music zones, and a shed load of lighting zones. Whilst it is a chunk, its probably saved me a couple of thousand pounds on heating controllers, solar controllers, dimmable light switches, burglar alarms etc. I m hoping I can shut myself away and get my head around programming it myself.
