  1. I know this is how some of the guys I know get solar panels onto a roof. I can't help feel the glass hoist would be the easier/safer bet
  2. On the plus side, this whole saga saves me watching any soaps and I can instead devote the time to installing my cladding today.
  3. Yes and novia it seems also do one. I ll staple it on before hand and then it will also be clamped by the battens
  4. Yes that's what I was thinking - trying to source one without size 200 font writing all over it is my task!
  5. I m using tongue and groove for most of it , and then a different style (battens) for this element.
  6. And clad something like this....
  7. Ok, this is he area I m looking to clad with battens
  8. I ll take a picture in the morning. I don't think it will get much uv exposure as the area will be within an overhang and the battens should stop direct sunlight also.
  9. Rather than starts new thread I thought I d tack onto my previous one. For part of my cladding detail I will be using battens with spacing between them. However I need it to look black between the gaps rather than seeing the shiny vapour membrane on the outside of the house currently. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to achieve this? Can I add another "Membrane" that is black in appearance to the outside of the battens or will this cause issues with moisture entrapment etc?
  10. Ok, just ordered two 4 ahms plus a charger for £70. My tools don't see a lot of action compared to you lot so hopefully it will do the job just fine. I m going to attempt to cut the bottoms off some ikea pax wardrobes so I can maximise the space and use the taller versions (my ceilings are about 5cm too low).
  11. Any verdicts on the clone batteries? Just picked up a makita cordless circular saw without battery thinking I would use the battery of my makita drill. Just ripped the box open, went and got my drill to nab the battery, only to realise my drill is actually a Bosch! I see see some clones on amazon. Are they any good/safe?
  12. That's an older post - not sure if it was build hub or ebuild so I ll need to check....
  13. The metal treads are covered in oak that has been smoked and brushed white, the end caps are the ends from the treads made in one piece so it matches through.
  14. Here s the post of how it was before.... http://forum.buildhub.org.uk/ipb/topic/1209-flexible-plaster-or-another-solution/
  15. The glass was fixed with "normal" off the shelf glass fixings, screwed through the joist and with a bolt/plate behind. I then had an mdf frame made up to support the plasterboard/slim without being fixed to the glass so that the small amount of flex in the glass balustrade did nt cause any cracking. There are some photos on the forum somewhere as this was a discussion point for me a few weeks back....
  16. Yes, large format tiles from Living Ceramics and two very good (and patient) tilers.
  17. What's the general consensus on cladding details on corners? We really using horizontal tongue and groove cedar. I was assuming two 45 degree angles butted up to each other but chippy thought it would need trim pieces to cover? Any input and photos of what others on the forum have done would be appreciated.
  18. Probably better with the lights on properly......
  19. Ok, well excuse the mess and the ensuite door that is sat under the stairs, moved in on Saturday but some trades still doing final pieces..... I need to give the glass a good clean, and I m having a white powder coated plate to go just above the top tread to hide the joist:floor build up that needs to go on.
  20. I checked with my local building rega and they were happy with 12 mm toughened. Will take a picture in a bit if anyone is interested in how it finished up after?
  21. Well I need a Black Friday bargain on an American fridge freezer, a dyson cordless Hoover, and a new tumble dryer. Can't wait to go scrapping with people in currys on Friday morning!
  22. To prove my point, this stove has an external air kit..... There is a difference between stoves having an external air connection to avoid the need of an air brick for regs , and stoves that are actually air tight. https://mobile.twitter.com/Euroheat/status/797001266803175424/photo/1
  23. How airtight is your house? Whilst that stove has a direct air supply, I doubt it is 100% sealed.
  24. Happened to my fiora skin wall panel yesterday! Gutted as it takes three weeks to get a new one, and we move in in two
  25. That's the job. Quite a lot for the 1200mm one though - wondering whether I look to buy the glass and channel system separately. edit. Just looked and I can get a made to measure one (so full height and fixed to the ceiling) for around £400
