our bricky used a scaff plank with a nail on it for the top gable. it diudnt move. here is a crap sketch

id listen to the builder and do block and beam on strip footings. they could accro up the legs easily while the conc set. No brainer if the steel is decorative only.

you will use a telehandler more. id rent the digger they are dirt cheap on a weekly basis.

Good Interior design can make a mediocre home look amazing. There is a reason showhomes have ID money spent on them. I think self builders can get so invested (and worn out!) getting the building up with all the associated behind the scenes stuff that there isnt much budget or sweat left for the rest! Our current build in progress I've employed an interior designer at the planning stage this time, may not do all the suggestions but it really helps with furnishings/colours/light etc

done all that. even looked at putting a 300L tank for each shower. Still crap compared to a combi though and LOT greater expense for a worse result. It's just a compromise i cant live with. A bit like buying a ferrari and it wont start 1/50 times.

would 2 provide limitless hot water for showers ?

interesting thread. I'm having the same issue with ASHP planning as we are a 5 person household and any limit on hot water is a no go. I'm thinking of fitting a combi just for the showers (4 of them) to get around the lack of hot water. Obviously could use electric showers but they are just not as good as combi/mains and would be a backward step which I wont take. It's the heat pump achilles heal which I cant see any other way out off.

totally get you. Trying to keep focus on the big picture while dealing with arseholes is one of the the more common challenges in the building ive found! I can't bite my lip though so we either have a row and get it sorted then and there or they gone. Last week was skip lorry driver who couldn't get at the skip and instead of asking shouted from the cab 'move that lot out the way im in a hurry', I laughed at him instead of having a row and ignored him. There is actually. The heat exchanger is controlled by a valve (bit like a blending valve that doesn't blend) so the UFH loop water tank gets heated to the set temp then clicks off all the while being circulated through the loop. This is an ECODAN system and JOULE cylinder installed earlier this year by an MCS approved firm. Maybe you have got an old system ?
