  1. Why not run two if you have a 3P board..? 60A to the first unit with 10mm2 would be fine, then take another feed to the second unit in 10mm2 again, assuming it’s only a 50A load Quicker cheaper and easier and means both can run independently
  2. Is he placing the concrete then ..?? There is no contingency and it’s not like you’re on a fixed price penalty contract to completion ... So from a quick guess on your plans that is 24 cubic metres of spoil to remove from the oversite, before you’ve got into digging out founds. Where is all that going ..??
  3. If you work on a day to set level pegs and get the site ready for pour, that would make it Day 1 oversite and clearance Day 2 trenches Day 3 inspection / completion & dig for ducts Day 4 Levels, washout area, confirm calcs, set ducts and pipe entries Day 5 pour founds I’d make sure the deliveries were for a couple of days after pour just in case there are issues as you need access to get the concrete wagons in place. I take it you already have wheelbarrows, shovels, hose pipe, rakes etc..??
  4. Not sure why you’ve filled the joints anyway ...? They don’t need filling when you’re skimming.
  5. The red bit on the handle is unicorn horn And you don’t really need one, work from the corners and just use a wet brush down the inner corner to clean it off
  6. 3 channel can be had for less than £30 now on eBay - I’ve just bought two.
  7. Yup ... comes on when the TS pump comes on ...
  8. If you have to have an Aga - they are really a lifestyle statement in a well insulated house - then look at the ones from EcoRange as they can be timed much better and run less. It also tells you on their website how much heat into the room they create - you just deduct this from the heat requirement of the room and factor that into your UFH plan.
  9. Mains gas is the cheapest for supply and install in a standard build and scores best in SAP for some reason. If it’s available then it’s worth it but remember the cost of servicing etc needs to be factored in and you can’t self install.* ASHP can be self installed and they are simple bits of kit that don’t need much in the way of servicing and if sized correctly they have an equivalent lifespan to a decent gas boiler. UVC and other bits are pretty similar to what is required for a gas or oil boiler, just remember that the CoP reduces dramatically as you go higher than 45c with DHW so you may need a secondary heat source to boost either the flow temperature or the the store temperature to provide a decent hot water supply. Daikin make a dual heat source ASHP that has a small gas boiler indoors and is very efficient as the boiler only has to take the water from 40-55c so this can be a compromise if you have PV and ASHP and also gas. * you can potentially install gas appliances yourself in your own house if you are deemed “competent” and in a new build you would need to get BCO sign off however it is not something I would ever advise on doing. Ever.
  10. @jfb I’ve moved the query - if it looks greyed out it means it’s a heading and there is a black drop down arrow next to it that will show the sub categories below.
  11. Yep you’ve got one @newhome and the flow switch makes it work ..... worth the 7 hour drive eh..??
  12. For 5 ensuites...??? ? I'm assuming we are talking a 750 or 1000 litre TS here..? With a 60-70kw DHW coil or PHE..?? And all the joy of a TS with a HRC.... hmm.... flow switch and pump anyone..?? @newhome...?
  13. 17m at 15mm is 2.3 litres of water before you get hot at the shower, at 22mm its 5.3 litres. I would look at running 15mm for each of the showers from a manifold - 28mm off the tank to allow for multiple showers - and then run 10mm to the basins as thats less than a litre in 17m of pipe. How big is the TS and is it a coil or a plate heat exchanger..?
  14. Most fire stuff isn’t 12v it’s 24v for Sounders / Panels / Detectors etc and should be installed by a qualified engineer. I wouldn’t let anyone untrained anywhere near it, LV or not as it’s safety critical.
  15. I love those sorts of statement..!! 10% of what..??! If you replaced all of your lights with LED from CFL you would easily make 10% but it’s meaningless for a new build.... Ground mount PV lend themselves to tracking systems so think about placement and exposure.
  16. Yeh and he even corrected my error with a certain isolator I fitted ... and I’ve drawn the schematic three times and put the valve in the right place every time ...
  17. And this is where @Nickfromwales and me got into a discussion about having a sealed thermal store needing G3 sign off ... I think Telford haven’t understood the question the Welsh Wizard asked ...
  18. I think he should go outside and cut some nice hazel and hand split it then replace all this nasty board with some nice lath .... Then lime plaster it, horsehair in the backing coat of course ......
  19. ASHP can be installed DIY too - it’s two cables and two pipes. GSHP is a whole different ball game ..!
  20. It was suggested subtly that you don’t use it ... So now you’ve probably realised why it was suggested not to use it ... Tape the corners, PVA 5:1 on the ceiling, mix half a bag of multi and get it on while it’s still damp. Walk away and have a brew while it’s going off, then make a second set (1/4 bag) and then overlay this, leave it 20 mins then go back and flat it back. Leave it 20 mins then get a clean wet brush and start to work the final finish - don’t worry about it getting too wet as it will soak up but don’t over work it. Clean tools and open beer.
  21. Have you got the soil survey ..? Piling is not the only option on clay and near trees, and sometimes it can be a worse option as you need to bring in large equipment that needs more earthworks than a passive slab.
  22. Not suggesting buying direct - just using a HO push to get disti pricing. It does work - I’ve done it a number of times - and you have to just take a punt occasionally ...
  23. Sorry - only looked at Lilyash and that director looks to be related to the previous but has never been a director of any of the others hence I didn’t look much further ..! See what you mean about the other companies now !
  24. Welcome ..! Just a thought - given the cost and complexity of using geothermal can you not design this out and use ASHP or similar and also improve thermal insulation levels to reduce heat loads..? Geothermal piling is a niche market and you are going to pay a lot for something that can be solved in better ways.
  25. So go direct to the brand ..!! A quick email to the head office saying you want to place an order but can’t get a response from xyz U.K. disti and you will get pricing I can assure you ..! I think we once worked out that on here there is a combined £50m buying power ( @MikeSharp01 that’s about right isn’t it..?) and yet I’m always amazed that people aren’t prepared to prod suppliers to get a response ...
