Required switch for the job
Pocster replied to SC5490's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
I use netgear unmanaged poe switches . When I need more I just daisy chain another in . I use to keep poe and non poe connections seperate but that became a pita . So if I allow for potentially everything to be poe it’s not an issue . The netgear switches allow for a bigger psu if you need more juice along poe . Though with 3 switches I just place ‘high powered ‘ things on a seperate switch . Around 50 devices including 8 poe ip cameras . -

You should never hammer - you’ll break things otherwise …

As SWMBO says to me Don’t Push too hard . Nice and easy . Slow and steady saves the day . That also works for drilling holes in tiles .

Irrigation pipe to pump issue
Pocster replied to Pocster's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Yeah I thought about that type of thing . I was concerned that say putting a jubilee clip around the skinny black pipe ( 6mm I think ) to a fitting and then a thick er pipe might be an issue . Skinny black pipe aka irrigation pipe not particularly strong - jubilee might split / dent it ?? . -
As I find new things to avoid finishing the build Iv’e constructed an automated irrigation system . The issue I have is that black pipe to pump fitting . Tried silicone and ct1 . No matter what ; it works loose and of course water sprouts everywhere bar down the pipe . Any suggestions for something that can be water tight , outdoors and completely submerged ?

If I do that then say polyfilla around the re inserted rectangle it will look shit . A large area can look perfect if re skimmed . Of course if your poly filla skills are amazing then perhaps it would work . I was just trying to do the job to a professional level for once .

@Tom - grow a pair mate . Great big pair . No fannying around in this forum 💪💪💪💪

What a pita . The fittings are good . One issue is that the centre screw whilst installing can catch the nylon and so spins the fitting unhelpfully . One time I thought it was in ( you remove the nylon thread at this point ) and inner fitting just fell down inside the wall . 🙄 I recommend these fittings for pb - but like (expletive deleted) would I hang say a tv off them - no chance . Photo of completed work . Will update later with photo of unit on floor and pb failed 🤣 Home time now ! Oh , I am home . Home and Friday , so ????? 🤔 ……. 🍷

It’s Friday ! So doing some work !

Lots of swearing ! Not with these fixings - they seem really good for pb . But with the tiny key hole fitting on the back - doesn’t help that their fixings aren’t perfectly lined up . Anyway half done !!

Sounds far better than a self build ! Yes , repayment to SWMBO will occur - cost of that will be unimaginable!! . I think you should post in my group : I mean ; delaying build by a jolly around Europe for 2 months is a very good excuse !
-
I do work too hard . Been saying that on this forum for over 11 yrs . Not sure how you wangled that with SWMBO but does sound awesome ! May I ask countries you intend to visit ?

3pm is start winding down time . Days seem very short for me . Once up in the morning , back from gym , have an obligatory rest , then lunch - time just flies by .
-
Oooooo Off my basic test these seem surprisingly good . I like that the centre screw ( the one taking the load ) can be of your choice and even placed in at an angle if need be . So some play . Enough work for today - tomorrow I will attempt mounting on the wall ….

Space always finds a use . A gym , that cinema type lounge , swimming pool etc etc ( ignoring budget of course ) My only regret was only going 1 level underground in hind sight I would have gone 2 levels underground. But finances and ‘risk’ were against me . -

Nah ! You find a man with a 30 tonne digger and get him to do it . You then do the groundwork / steels / concrete etc. yourself . Piece of piss …… ok , maybe not . I was getting quotes just to dig the hole ranging from 7k to 100k ! . In the end 30k is where I settled on . Planning will love it ! It’s ‘eco’ , can’t object to something no one can see . Go on - you only live once . I’ll help you (expletive deleted) it up - I mean advise you . -

Help designing our home network

The other consideration is WiFi will most likely have less bandwidth than cable . Obviously depends on your setup . I try and keep WiFi free for things that need it I.e mobile devices ; though I make exceptions for a variety of reasons .
