Help designing our home network
Pocster replied to MechanicalBuilder's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
Even though like others I equally cabled everywhere there’s always a situation where it won’t do . So a super reliable WiFi mesh network ( with Ethernet backhaul ) is very important imho . -
I’ll risk 15 quid and see .

Ok Ordered those geefixings - try that first . Failing that will cut rectangle in wall . Stay tuned for update folks 🤣
-
Considered that also . SWMBO change her mind ?? Never …. 😆
-
I like those geefixings . I could try them I.e test on pb off cut to convince myself . Then try on wall - worst case I got back to cutting rectangle out ; nothing to lose …
-
I only concern with this is that plasterer skims it away to invisible once painted . I’ve got a few other jobs for plasterer when I get him so it’s not get him in for just this .
-
Understand the method for 1 fixing . But surely far easier for me with 4 fixings in a row to cut out rectangle and noggin between studs … ? Something like this ?
-
Yep know exactly what you mean . I’ve got 4 screws to get in at various distances so rather than work through a hole it’s going to be a lot easier to get a slot out . As long as plasterer can skim it so it’s invisible after I paint ….
-
Agree ! If I rip a rectangle in the pb and renoggin - then getting level far easier . Once the screws are in place just leave them there as plasterer skims around them . Would a skim in the offending area once repainted ( the entire wall ) be not noticeable?

Each shelf is only about 15kg - 2 of them . SWMBO wants to put glass ornaments on them aka shite . So the weight isn’t an issue . But shelf falls off wall is an issue ! The problem I’ve got is these ‘super duper’ plasterboard fittings don’t fill me with confidence. Chunk of timber deliberately in the wall makes me much happier . Also if I need to reposition a screw a few mm either way it’s doable in timber . These plasterboard fittings require drilling a hole around 10mm wide to put the collar in . So a few mm out is a problem. I tried them on a bit a plasterboard I’ve got lying around . I can rip them out by hand - admittedly applying more force than they will deal with . But you know …. Paralysis by analysis 🙄😊
-
Having difficulty here ! Sent those fittings back . Got a different variation which are now also going back . Considering the pita option of actually cutting a rectangle out the plasterboard and nogging across where the ‘bookcase’ will go . Then getting it skimmed back in later and repaint the entire mofo wall . Is that too OTT ??? 🫤

Don’t fret on the timescale too much . It will be worth it . The build up and suspense of moving in must be enjoyed .

You wait @joe90 !. Once the final details are sorted and the netflix series titled "BuildHub - better than sex?" - you'll see plenty of my smutty humour.

Tbh it seems to work . I usually do a thicker initial caulk line - assuming it will crack . Then very fine line a few days later , using my finger to feel the crack . 😉

I read this also , and I still didn’t give a (expletive deleted)

Maybe but I like it this way . I always check it is sold by Amazon I.e 28 day no quibble returns policy exists . Also in this case it may be tricky to prove cheaper as the replacement is coming from China …

I’m bored today as men here fixing stairs again so I’m out the way doing nothing . The awol ltv3500 pro is awesome - I don’t feel the need to adjust the image depending on content ( with nexigo you kind of did ) . Bought from Amazon . Found it a better price , so will order that and return the other back to Amazon 😊 Picture without any blinds and in daylight is watchable as a tv but obviously not as bright . Add an ALR screen and a motorised blackout blind all linked to HA and it is pretty awesome ! . Gaming is especially intense at 120” . I would go larger ( believe a guy in us stuck it on a 340” screen ! ) - but then I’d have to build a bigger house !!

My bco came out about a year ago to look at my staircase ( a pointless excercise ) . He said they had never received a soil sample report ! . I sent it 11 yrs ago and made sure I kept the email thread from a previous bco accepting it . Sent that to new bco - never replied ( believe they are meant to have 5 weeks to respond ? ) . Planning and bc are a joke . Record all conversations ( assume you ever get a face to face ) . Keep copies of everything as they’ll deny you did it . They are useless twats .

Happy with that grade

I sometimes get this . I just caulk over it again and deliberately don’t paint it .

Rigid vs Semi-Rigid
Pocster replied to joshwk's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
I always go rigid -
I won’t test the supposed 116kg limit !!

Funny isn’t it . It’s only 4 screws - but so much that can go wrong !
