Waiting for 2nd fix, can I fit faceplates myself?
Pocster replied to Mike_M's topic in Regulations, Training & Qualifications
My sparky let me do these . But as others have said he wanted them left off the wall so he could inspect . He’s the one signing the lot off so it’s fair enough -
My reputation precedes me ! ?

Many years ago when expanding foam was new I bought some and filled a hole . As it expanded at a zillion times I used my bare hands to push it back in . Took months to have usable hands again .

Use when the kindle has run out . Books are for peasants- I’m in a mood tonight

What’s a “ book “ ?

I donated more than you . That makes me a moderator in training . I am happy to say you have passed the initial test with flying colours . Have you considered walk on glazing ?
-
Amateurs ! Even I didn’t make that mistake ???

To match the walnut ‘effect’ . I bet it still looks awesome

Rather than 36 quid each. I found some quite nice ones for 7 quid each ?
-
Think I'll go for the veneer . Cheaper; also at the width I want they would have to biscuit join 3 pieces.

? If you stopped all your pornhub subscriptions you’d be much wealthier

Yes they can do . Is “ real “ walnut worth the extra cost ?? . Will it look different/ feel different??
-
Yeah , I did think of things like that .

Got a rough price for the timber and machining ( 160cm x 50cm ) at around £220 + vat . Notice on the quote they’ve put walnut mdf veneer ? Quickly looked at their website “ real “ walnut will be maybe 400 before machining !!! Ouch ! . Will anyone be able to tell the difference? . Also weight wise ; is real walnut going to be considerably heavier ??
-
I’m actually quite excited by this . Although the designer version had ‘ click for pricing ‘ - we know it would of been ridiculously expensive. So to have made something very similar for ( I guess ) a few hundred quid is awesome ! . The practicality of recessed flipable hooks is largely pointless as coats will always be hanging on them ?
-
The company is being really good ! ( must know I’m an inept joiner ) . I can send them 1 hook and the recessed hangers - so they can machine them perfectly! ? My new motto “ out source skilled work “ ??
-
Oh I see ? I’ll get the company to do that also ! . Presume just 2 recessed hooks near the top is sufficient?
-
Well ! As you know ! . I tried every stud detector that exists - they are all crap . The positioning of this rack has to be between the door fully open and a socket - so you can bet a zillion quid there’s no stud in between them . Just aswell I osb ‘d everything precisely for these type of issues ( though I was mocked for doing it )

So this type of thing ? https://www.direct-fittingsuk.com/keyhole-hangers-round-metal-recessed-mount-insert-bed-connector-picture-mirror-frame-bracket-30mm-x-6739-p.asp So presumably I cut the plaster back to the osb and mount them recessed ?
-
Robbins have the timber but won’t cut the holes . https://www.woodshopdirect.co.uk/planed-all-round/american-black-walnut-timber/ have the timber and will cut the holes !!! ? My next question is how to wall mount this . Wall is plasterboard on osb - can’t guarantee where the studs are . I want a no visible fixing ; but don’t want it wobbling / moving . What’s best to use ??
-
Didn’t know that was possible or if supplier can do that .
-
? ; already emailed them
-
Haven’t got a router . Don’t really want the job or to f it up - hence hoping wood supplier will do the work
