Don't forget the blue cubes / pineapple chunks to give you something to aim at. A nice thick marker pen left next to the pan could let visitors leave their own comments on the walls for that really authentic feel. So... Casting our minds back to June 2015... This white plastic 22mm pipe is the diversion of the, single, 3/4" nominal bore pipe that runs the down stairs CH. Shortly I need to "tap into" it to feed the bathroom UFH loop and ideally towel rad. Bathroom is to the right of the photo.

No worries. Each of the sample lines took a similar time to set. Just odd about that mid grey. Tbh I wasn't at all scientific about mixing the two samples last night. The guy at the tile place reckons getting the ratio right is critical as it will affect the final colour. I never knew that!

Meanwhile, back on thread: Top sample is Silver Grey then White. Done last night. Lower sample is Silver Grey, Mid Grey, Grey as written. Done earlier today. Mid Grey is looking favourite at the mo depending how it dries overnight. The sample grout was made up religiously following the powder/water mixing ratios. Used one of those 25/50ml Calpol spoons! Silver Grey = 3.25:1 or 300ml/1kg Mid Grey = 3.25:1 or 300ml/1kg Grey = 3.5:1 or 250ml/1kg What was odd was that SWMBO made up the Mid Grey twice following the above ratios and it was far too thick. Third time lucky she added a little more water to get the right consistency. So it was in fact <3.25:1. ??? All grout bags are in date as in Jun/Jul 18. Be interesting when we do the bulk mix.

Sort of... Doing this lot of samples herself!

I have, before, clamped a piece of timber 2400mm long, along the centre of the board (both ends) to be able to tilt on the short edge, to help me when lifting boards vertical on my own. Two people easier of course.

So after a half hour phone call & Whatsapp session she decides the Silver Grey has dried "too white". She loved it last night when it first went in. The difference I think is that it was wetter hence darker. This is it dry: And from a distance: So we've ditched Charcoal and I'm going to do some samples of Mid-Grey and the darker Grey which is one down from Charcoal. Just made my sample board up:

I finally conjured up the enthusiasm to do something this morning so started applying the tanking tape around the bath. SWMBO wanders in... "Now last night the silver grey looked darker.....the white's too white. Go with the silver grey if you've bought it..." Guess who's now en route to Rochester to get CHARCOAL grout?

The bit about the proper kit is true but.... One old school way of testing earth efficiency is with a "light bulb". Connect one side to Live and the other side to your earth rod. The brighter the bulb glows the better the earth! At the end of the day it's a great practical demo of Ohm's Law. DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!

Earth rods are generally better external in "flower beds" etc than internally. As above the damper the soil the lower the resistance and under a slab can be dry. Soil resistance anyway varies massively; in Summer when the ground dries and shrink away from the rod, in Winter when the ground freezes. Most people bang in a 4' rod and think that's it. The thinner rods are obviously cheaper but go for the thicker ones and they're threaded so you can connect them together to go deeper. Or you can space multiple rods in a particular pattern. Another option is an earth plate. Again, if you have a "trench" you can lay a copper tape in horizontally even. Anything to get more copper in contact with the mass of earth. Soil acidity etc plays a part to in the life expectancy of the rod...most are copper clad steel. I was given a reel of copper bus bar tape which I intend laying in my water pipe trench (about 50m) and connecting to my earth rod. Should be interesting to see how much it brings things down by. Btw the connecting cable size on TT can be as small as 2.5mm2 if insulated AND mechanically protected. The only way to tell how good the earth connection is is by measurement with the proper kit.

Sad git that I am I may buy the 2Ah battery and charger. I know I could CAD up a solid model in AutoCAD for a Parkside battery to LXT tool. Not sure if that can be exported to a 3D printer? Just had a look in AutoCAD 2010. Seems I can make a solid and export as a .STL Lithography file which I believe 3D printers take...

Not unless you want to CAD up and then 3D print an adapter!
