When we decided to gut the bathroom SWMBO decided she wanted the door in another wall. As luck would have it I uncovered a blocked up doorway near enough where she wanted it...or so I thought she said. Turns out I was wrong and had to move it by about a foot. But with the new opening I discovered the the bathroom concrete floor was about 60mm higher than the rest of the house. I'd never really picked up on before. The walls are a foot thick and there was just a bit of a slope at the doorway. It was finding this that prompted me to dig the floor up completely.

Bit late to start thinking like that.

As I don't want to be drinking softened water (I'm one red label away from high BP problems again), I'd want a separate, cold mains feed for all the sinks and basins. Can't quite get my head round the plumbing. Mains comes in one side of the (big) house where the 3 WCs, bathroom and ensuite is. A 15mm cold feed then goes up and through the dormer ceiling to the kitchen the other side of the house. HW Cylinder is above the kitchen ceiling, CWS and header tanks are above that. Boiler next to the kitchen. Hot to the sinks and baths then go back across the top of the dormer/ round the outside to the other side of the house again. To run new pipes (and copper is a must here) it's either floors up of ceilings down...or HOUSE down! ? Guess I need to separate the mains somewhere... One for another day (year). Siting the water filter where the mains comes in in the bathroom cupboard isn't favoured by SWMBO. Then where to take the drain to etc.

One of the (many) problems I had was one I guess you'd call accumulative error. Get one tile wrong, at a slight rake, and before you know where you are the adhesive had dried and you have to live with it. My worst was on the dwarf wall/recess over the bath in the corner. Viewed as is, today: Then with the laser on it: In reality you live with it and don't notice it.....until some git on a forum forces you to open old wounds! ? I kick myself everyday as I spent ages aligning the studs and packing everything straight and level to screw it up with the tiling! Most people tbh walk in and are impressed. All except my pita best mate who admittedly did offer to help with the tiling. At the end of the day you're DIYing it, you're not a tiler so will have some faux pas moments. (The ducks btw are SWMBOs little dig in that she had bought a load of bath toys for the kids when they were younger expecting the bath to go straight in when we bought it in 2010. As the bathroom took so long I think its a case she was still damn well going to get her money's worth ? ).

I've heard of the "cupful of white vinegar trick". Got a feeling we might have tried it but it was when the DW had serious blockage issues. When I have had to strip the dishwasher down I used vinegar & bicarb to flush through the bubble matrix. The main issues were that and the grey pipe at the bottom which was full of gunge. I wonder how many DWs get binned because of this. Tbh that's how SWMBO cleans the kettle of limescale here (white vinegar).

Dishwasher is too old to have such a light. It's like Trigger's Broom. I sort/fix the DW. We pay to have the WM under a service contract 'cos it's always going wrong and basically crap. Sealed drum etc.

We always used to use Oust to clean the Hotpoint washing machine and Bosch dishwasher. When the Hotpoint engineer came out once he slated Oust and recommended Wpro, universal limescale and grease remover. Of course he would recommend a Whirlpool product! ? Any other recommendations?

If you want quiet inside, then look at @PeterStarck's wall make up. Icynene between the wall timbers and from memory Rockwool batts outside.

@wozza mentioned it the other week. Local BM has it so thought I'd try it. The white is supposed to not yellow. Smells different to CT1. More like regular silicone in its application imo. Tooled fine with the Fugi tools and excess cleaned off with baby wipes. https://www.ct1.com/our-products/bt1/

Now that you mention it I half remember this! I did have a Floplast one at home, same as I ended up buying (along with the 2 McAlpine ones?) but was miles from home. Yep the Floplast is crap. Dry fitted first, well attempted to and it pushed the white rubber out of its seat. Had to prise the end cap off, refit then use silicone spray.

Only just read the last two comments ref hot water etc! Couldn't have anyway as no power here. Gas/leccy off. Went and got a Floplast one. Went in seemingly fine with a bit of silicone spray (I did try that on the McAlpine ones). Forever White in the gap where it goes through the tile and redid where wall meets floor as best as. Will 3D print a 2 piece collar later. Pan down to the floor with 50mm long 10dia Fischer plugs then M6x90 st/st screws. Gone round the base with that new BT1 after cleaning with Multisolve. Cheers for the help.

Both of these McAlpine flange bits are a bitch to get in to the 100mm, now round, hole even. Going to get a Floplast one and try that.
