If it were me I would get some 100mm x 30mm PSE (planed square edge) (or close) timber and fix it into the opening where you want the frame, then you can decorate, skirting etc and consider building a door or sourcing one afterwards, depends if you want to match other existing doors or go different, ledge and brace doors are very “cottage” if that’s what you want.

Welcome to THE forum of self builders, don’t get me started about planners, I too wasted years £££££ and won at appeal. Anyway, there is a plethora of info here and remember there is no such thing as a silly question, silly is not asking in the first place . We look forward to your “story” and questions (despite the crazy state of the nation at present ?).

No two shower mixers are the same, also the old one may have “crud” In it.
-
well, I beg to differ, you did this didn’t you, small beginnings eh?
-
Ah, not yet ?, other things got in the way but still planned (next year???). I have access to telegraph poles and planned 4 off on concrete pads only about 400mm deep (ground already compacted stone) and 400mm square with some sort of steel in the concrete I can fix to the posts To stop it taking off in high winds. (Well that’s the theory so far).

Felt definitely has a limited life, GRP will outlive you!, if you get a proper GRP installer they will get it right and give you a guarentee. -

Yes mate, it made sense to me to tie the trusses to the wall also nails through these to wall plate and trusses diagonally nailed to wall plate, belt and braces? Yes but it gets windy here. -

IMO ring shanks are even better (as long as you don’t want to pull them out again). Duh, joist hangers usually use square shank nails specifically fir joist hangers, perhaps roof metalwork is different???. -
well done, we shall soon be asking you how to mend things!,!!!

that’s been raised before, nails are good for shear forces screws are not,(I think it was about joist hangers!!!) I tend to temp hold stuff with screws till I know it’s right then bang away with the old paslode (then take the screws out as I am tight ?). -
if I jump in the shower mine comes on within two minutes, only problem is the ambient RH sometimes confuses it, @Jeremy Harris said he adjusted his winter to summer.
-
Why not use a RH sensor in the extract duct like most do.
-
Yes my sensor is white ?

MVHR - list of questions/thoughts
joe90 replied to mjward's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
I think ASHP is ideal fir a new build where insulation etc can be maxed out and UFH installed, we have no gas (apart from bottled for a hob) I bought my ASHP on Ebay and self installed for less than a gas boiler would have cost. Every case is different. -
I vote for Howdens, have fitted them for years, although retired I fitted one fir a mate recently and some of their upgrades are even better than before, anything missing or damaged replaced immediately and no questions asked. I have fitted ikea but I don’t like their no void at the back.

Even cheaper, you need not use the temp I suppose (mine came from China) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-Thermostat-Temperature-Humidity-Controller-AC-110-220V-10A-SHT2000/273457422063?

This is the one I got, didn’t pay that tho!!! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electronic-Humidistat-Control-switch-Relative-Humidity-Hygrometer-Controller/112652897474?epid=1662771990&hash=item1a3aa2ccc2:g:urIAAMXQWuRQ9pAS

Can’t remember where I git mine but @Jeremy Harris recommended it off Ebay, that one does not appear to have a sensor???, mine is in a box mounted near the MVHR with the probe going into the extract duct.

I tend to put a small smear of Vaseline on rubber washers to let them slide up tight and not “grab” the rubber.
-
Dead easy to remove the bar and those grips you have, with a cloth should remove the nuts.....

It usually like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WASHING-MACHINE-DISHWASHER-SHOWER-VALVE-HOSE-FILTER-MESH-GAUZE-WASHER-3-4-BSP/333483418680?hash=item4da5292438:g:U7EAAOSwMkhddjK2. Just need to measure the size when you get it out.

been there, done that. Right through my middle finger, pulled it out with pliers and carried on, customer was watching and suggested I go to hospital but my reply was “doctors don’t know much about annular nails!!!! ?.
