Recommend Me a MVHR system
joe90 replied to Dave Jones's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Ha, I was told that with my South facing conservatory we would overheat , yes it did for a few weeks but people pay to fly to southern climes for that kind of temperature. In the shoulder seasons it heats the house brilliantly and is still very usable on sunny winter days. It’s a bit like heating the house fir the couple of weeks it’s very cold, we have no heating in the bedrooms and frankly I will plug a couple of heaters in for them rather than pay fir permanent fixed heating types for those rooms. -
Posts here have talked about this before and it’s cheaper to get an indemnity insurance instead.

Recommend Me a MVHR system

yes, (mostly), there was a very good blog from @Jeremy Harris but unfortunately it’s not available now. He had an MVHR with a small unit fir cooling but it was very ineffective he opted to reverse engineer his ASHP to cool the slab and it was much more effective. Others here may know the details better than me. I have not had an overheating problem since my buIld was complete, but if I do I will modify mine to cool the slab as well. -
I prefer biscuits ( with my tea ?).

From what people have done here cooling from MVHR is very minimal, cooling is better done by UFH (UFC?) if you use an ASHP -
Showerwall panels - end trims pics please

My end pieces had a wide and a narrow side, I opted for the narrow side to the front of the panel to make it neater. -
I bought a few of these to prove to my other half that the house was warm, as said above people are bad at detecting the temp. In our old house the walls were cold and the rads hot so you felt the warmth coming at you, in our new build the house has no heat source (apart from UFH) so you don’t detect a “heat source”, worth a couple of quote each. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Indoor-Temperature-Meter-Thermometer-Digital-Temp-Sensor-Probe-BO/302977237945?hash=item468ad9c3b9:g:mGcAAOSweX5b~~58

I applied water reppelant to our west wall that catches the Atlantic weather and it’s brilliant, rain now runs off it like glass, expensive and dead easy to apply with a brush and one coat was sufficient https://www.kingfisheruk.com/extreme-climate-next-generation-water-seal-item-26EC5#26ec5

corner!!! I don’t have any “joins” -
There appears to be no “drip” on the render/lintel to stop water tracking back into the window!.

Our building inspector initially wanted a soakaway but I pointed out a hole in solid clay like we have would just stay full of water, he agreed to my suggestion it was piped into an existing ditch which is where any surface water would go anyway. This led into a road gulley for 50m then to a ditch carrying water eventually to a stream then river.

Master Bedroom renovation
joe90 commented on MikeGrahamT21's blog entry in Back on the self-build waggon...
I did go and look at the place as my mate asked me to, and I did jump up and down but I only weight 9st soaking wet and the place was full of furniture!!!!. Also my mate pointed out his structural survey which cost ££££ pointed out the same issues I did. In future I would recommend anyone Buying to lift various bits of carpet in all rooms. (I have 20/20 hindsight ?). -
I would do it now and see if the planners notice, much more hassle retrofitting. After my fight with the planners we have not seen hide nor hair of them.

I gave up on rafter cutting with a chop saw, reverted to a https://www.thesafetysupplycompany.co.uk/p/9356377/silverline---aluminium-alloy-roofing-square-7---trsl-si-734100.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwufn8BRCwARIsAKzP6945bXaQ31o0XoyRcr_ib9CZXivkC965n8wT-WZ7DLhsw0qxLLtxVwwaAkXeEALw_wcB and did it with a handsaw, much better IMO. -
I used scalpings on my drive and various paths (they were resurfacing the road near me and I paid £50 a lorry load ?) brilliant stuff fir the price (if you can get it!).

Stove Hearth/Chamber Inspiration

+1 fir slate scratching badly, I went to a reclamation yard and got two pieces of flagstone, cut them with an angle grinder, voi -
yes, they don’t build them like they used to ?( thank god), only way to get straight skirting on that is a 3” piece added to top of skirting (like your boxing in around pipes) and scribe it to the wall (cut it wiggle to the profile of the wall).

If it makes you feel any better my controller hand book might well have been written in Chinese fir all I know (and Jeremy with the same controller had problems fathoming out his as well).

Well done mate, looks really good, yes wobbly walls are a pain, that’s what filler is for.

Well my ASHP (heating) has not come on yet this year, the house hovers around 20’, thats insulation and airtightness for you!!!
