Minimum truss spacing for readymade fancy loft ladder.
joe90 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
I think the simple answer is it depends on the loft ladder width and size of your MVHR!!!? just measured mine and it’s 550mm wide frame packed out between 600mm joists. I would not want it any narrower than mine. -
how long will it take to season and does zoot have the space?
-
Despite the lovely idea of seasoning your own!!!,! Would take years. Have you not got a sawmill or timber merchant near you?

+1 on 1mm packers when fitting door stops, nothing worse than having to move door latch after painting. top tip.....I hate doors slamming and I stick those little clear door bumps to the door stops top and bottom. https://www.screwfix.com/p/door-cushion-domes-49-pack/18213?tc=SB6&ds_kid=92700046986170840&ds_rl=1241687&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1245725&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=CjwKCAiAqJn9BRB0EiwAJ1Sztd6jGctNAgUHXkaMvxBSX_qWq0iB7JAC3FpW2Hy5PU1wbhicoWAiJxoCSX8QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Choosing MVHR - energy consumption angle
joe90 replied to Olf's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
My take is a bit different, I only tend to use the MVHR in winter, windows open in summer, no draughts in winter and pre warmed/ filtered air in winter. No PV (spent the money on a classic car instead ?♂️) My bifolds are between house (kitchen diner and conservatory / lounge and conservatory) this means when it is warm in the conservatory, which is quite a lot of days, I open them and it heats the house, when the temp drops I close them. So far this autumn this has heated the house enough to not have the heating on at all. Yes I DIY installed the MVHR and got the unit dirt cheap on Ebay (I am tight as well). I firmly believe the small cost of running the MVHR is worth the lack of draughts/trickle vents and I am not too worried on payback. -
yes but it’s a cottage and they are always a bit squiffy. When I renovated an old cottage in Shropshire my building inspector turned up as I just finished some bricklaying (I am not a brickie) and I complained that my bricklaying was not very level/square, his reply was that my bricklaying was as good as the rest and dead straight brick laying would not be in character.

Looking good zoot, see, you can do it, just needs a little help. ?
-
1/4” will be fine. Problem with the plant on door stops is you need the door to fit them too, frankly I would leave them off till you build a door, you can instal them with the door (when it’s built) and paint them afterwards, just protect the new carpet with plastic sheet when you do.

yes.

On a cold winter evening I would still rather watch a real fire ??
-
Yes, or the hinges will rub on it as they are set into the door frame!!!!
-
I don’t think the majority of people instal wood stoves on a financial basis, I know we didn’t. We just love an open fire, goes with our “cottage” style, happen to have plenty of wood available fir free locally (neighbour is a tree surgeon ?). I would not consider one if I lived in a city/town because of the pollution but here in the middle of nowhere!!!! (I also drive a diesel ?).

Multi Pro Fireboard Kingspan insulation - Testing Required
joe90 replied to NewToAllOfThis's topic in Building Regulations
Perhaps the BC is being cautious after Grenfell and Kingspan insulation being used!!!!! I know I would. -
Nah, tighten it up then file/grind the corners off, it’s not that much too big.
-
yes any system is as good as the calcs done about heat loss etc.
-
people? I think you mean so called professionals without a track record in ASHP installs. Plenty of cowboy plumbers out there that instal gas boilers etc. Why, I designed my own system with the help of a few people on this forum and I have no formal training. See no 2/ Is there?, yes it’s a fairly new tech knowledgely but quite a few of us here managed it. It’s not rocket science. not if they do their homework about who to employ, same as finding any trades person IMO
-
£850, still on original pallet and shrink wrapped from manufacturer. Kingspan dropped out of the market and sold off all their stock. Actually made by Carrier of America who make zillions of these and air con units ?.

It will be Friday in 1 1/4 hours ?????
-
that gives you three full days!!!!!!! How long do you want? Quarter moulding.
-
Sounds like you did not drill deep enough, needs to be a bit deeper to accommodate dust etc. Did you have the correct driver bit? They are usually no 3,s
-
yes depends which fixings you have, some are hammer as Peter says, how did your spark do it, hammer or screw?, try bashing it in a bit then screw.
-
Zoot, enjoy

pressurised systems do need an annual Check. My ASHP has no warranty (bought it dead cheap on Ebay ?).

Wood burning stove fireplace, how deep is recommended?
joe90 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Stoves, Fires & Fireplaces
yup, another reason for solid walls etc Ha, yes, thanks fir the compliment, I am very pleased with the result ( big head imoji ). -
be carefull drilling next to the edge of the block, especially at the top if the frame is proud, it will probably split the edge off the block, if it were me I would still move the frame into the opening a bit.
