It’s really about putting stress on ceiling joists which are not meant to be used as floor joists , if you use legs, the point loads may be a bit high for the ceilings joists whereas additional timbers will spread the load a bit. Also depends what you put up there (load).

No, it results in a COP less than 1 fir the short duration of the defrost (which I have only noticed once during two years of running mine)- 42 replies

I was lucky with my BC officer, he told me I needed a soakaway and I said “you mean swimming pool”, I explained that if I dug a hole in my clay it would fill with water and stay there, so he asked me what I proposed and I told him I would pipe it straight into a nearby ditch that normally takes all the ground water from that site and he agreed. I am sure it did not meet regs but he was a practical sort of chap.
-
+1, my builder did this, we are on heavy yellow clay and the water table can almost reach the ground level in winter. We encircled the house and the garage with French drains and piped it into a nearby ditch and have had no problems since.

Yes, so are you in cornwall?

yet again, you make statements that are not true, it was pointed out to you in a previous thread that temperature makes little difference to heat pumps, it’s relative humidity that has a small effect that can cause icing. yup!- 42 replies

New heating for terraced house in London

No, as I have stated before, I and a number of my neighbours have heat pumps and none of us find them noisy, let alone very noisy. You have made this statement before on this forum and other members have also disagreed with you.- 42 replies

Will they even notice?, if anything they have not sent the bricks you wanted/had a sample so if you do change them why would you have to re submit???
-
But he mentioned samples, these should be accurate. @Dan1983 how dissimilar are the bricks from the sample?
-
Never rely on pictures to give a true colour (ask me how I know ?) but you say they don’t match the sample which should be a real brick or a part brick cut. Open the other packs to check them. Always mix packs when laying, this is done with bricks, tiles etc as colour can vary slightly but much less noticeable when mixed up. If your not happy then ring the supplier, you will be looking at these fir a long time. We picked a paint cut for our windows from an iPad and when they turned up we’re completely different from what we thought, but, we have grown to like , even love the colour (luckily).

+1, my CAD drawings are “crayon assisted drawing”. Seriously tho, I did my drawings on paper in pencil using a drawing board and paid an architect just to put them on CAD (and he still got things wrong ?♂️).

Bonkers idea or a great idea?
joe90 replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
It’s probably creocote, not as good as the real stuff but non toxic. Looking really good! -
I agree, walking through the front door you see the longest row of tiles in a line right through to the patio door. Measure out to see what that leaves you with in the rear room as a little off the tile next to the front door might make a big difference in that room and won’t be noticed.
-
Which is why I didn’t have a thermal store but a decent insulated DHW tank and limit the water to 48’, you will need a bigger tank but my losses are very low.
-
Definitely agree, ours was very good and reasonable. I didn’t want bat boxes in the house but preferred several in the garage/workshop , the ecologist agreed. Planners still insisted on bat boxes built into the house as well. When I won at appeal the officer told the council they were not qualified to overrule the ecologist ?.

Personally I don’t like the “feel” of dot and dab (hollow sounding walls). Yes I know if it’s done properly it performs well but I had my build cement rendered then plaster top coated. I can hang anything I want from any wall (apart from the odd stud wall in bedrooms/bathroom upstairs).
-
Not that I am aware, we had one particularly stroppy neighbour and their objections to the original planning application were thrown out resoundingly by the areal officer ?
-
I found the appeal process easier than applying for planning (and I did it myself). Crack on ?

Talk about human rights, bats seem to have more rights than us ?
