I agree mate but the SE said otherwise. 🤷♂️ Yes my slab was 100mm bigger on three sides and 400mm (with slope) on the front.
-
Yes I had an alarm fitted in the pump box but ran another cable (in duct) back to the house so the alarm was in the house (where it could he heard).
-
Yes building regs mean it will not fall down (structural ) and planning means it looks acceptable. my slab (advised by our residential SE) was a 9” slab with steel mesh embedded in it. I was lucky that the ground had already been a parking space with tons of compacted stone etc (just had to remove the gravel off the top.) others here will advise on depth etc of hardcore etc.
-
My trench next to the foundations were filled with 50mm drainage stone to act as a French drain due to a high water table, this was extended to a roadside ditch to reduce the water levels.
-
No, PD as under the height restrictions and less than half the garden etc. With the help of a very friendly SE who is a member here (who I will ask if he minds advising you) it’s on a consolidated base that was a parking space with gravel .

Boundary retaining wall failure

Perhaps I should have said ‘it will break if the wall STILL moves” 🤷♂️ -

You can glue a small piece of glass across the crack, it will break if the wall moves. -

No but the crack and the cut and mastic will tidy it up (keep the neighbours happy) till it does need rebuilding which could be years away yet 🤷♂️ (I did similar on a family members retaining wall, and it’s still there over 10 years after). -

I tend to agree with your builder but not sure if it’s urgent, you could cut the cracks with a disc cutter and fill with mastic (as an expansion joint) you could always core drill some holes near the bottom, your neighbour has gravel backfill and not a lot of water will emerge. Leave the rebuild till it’s really required. -
You won’t really know till you strip the felt off and maybe the deck too.

Childcare costs and getting a mortgage?🙈
joe90 replied to Amateur bob's topic in Self Build Mortgages
I would get your parents to write a letter they are taking over the childcare, mind banks are a law unto themselves but worth a try. -
I am old but a plastic convert, as said above if fitted properly there is no reason plastic will fail before copper.

Boundary retaining wall failure

Is the wall leaning?.if not then I don’t think it’s a problem . Does it have expansion/movement joints ? If no expansion joints I am not surprised it has cracks at 10m long but not necessarily unstable. -
Well done @Ferdinand, what about local papers getting involved in councils breaking the law, very news worthy I would have thought. Gangs (🤣) of wheelchairs users turning up at blocked paths etc and getting photographed ?
-
And any disabled groups near you, challenge quoting the law (or just sneak round with a high viz on 🤣)

A 4inch angle grinder(at an angle) will cut it off within 10mm, then grinding disk to remove till flush. i sm not sure the above drill attachment will have the grunt, angle grinders spin far faster and are made for cutting hard stuff.
-
And cost the tax payers a few thousand £ 🙄 (go for it).
-
Battery angle grinder with a cutting disc (metal) and grinding disk to make flush with the ground.
-
What an admirable thing to do, you will get opposition (nimbys) but hopefully locals will see you as interested in local opinion, best of luck, post back please.

Light Spillage Mitigation

Curtains 🤷♂️ -
As I did I and the vast majority here on this forum. As did i where I could. I disagree They have “got away with it” because a/ we didn’t initially understand the damage and b/ because we (the general public) have not voted for law makers to bring about change sooner. p.S. I installed an ASHP that was quieter than my neighbours oil boiler 🤷♂️
