  1. Well electricity can be produced by wind or sun and the percentage is going up.
  2. Well my interpretation is “economical” in the power usage and materials form, most here like myself built or are building a house with masses of insulation, attention to detail giving airtightness and heating systems that are cutting edge and least harmful to the planet. Yes I have a raft of concrete over petroleum derived insulation but concrete can last many decades and no other insulation can support it. However my cavity is filled with rockwall, which is not petroleum derived. I admit to having a woodstove but it’s used rarely and I harvest local fallen wood to fuel it and it is my “feel good factor”. I am all electric but buy from an “eco” supplier and PV is on the cards for the future. (The house is cheap to run and I am on a pension 🤷‍♂️).
  3. However most of us here are trying to make a difference.
  4. Only you would read it that way 🤪!
  5. Or just get a really good builder who will know other trades you need locally, I only used an architect to put my pencil drawings on CAD (and he still got it wrong!) No QS, No SE, i was PM to keep an eye on detail. 👍
  6. so that no drafts get it. big difference between airtight and draught free!
  7. Not airtight but draught free (sorry for being picky) as @markc says above 👍
  8. Not herringbone but I laid my lounge floor in engineered oak over UFH and it looks brilliant and no problems at all.
  9. I used a “in wall” meter box on a couple of posts near where it was going to go in the garage wall, when the DNO brought the cable to it I asked for a bit of slack (bribed them with tea and biscuits) and when the garage wall went up I swung it into the wall. Temporary supply to the caravan and sockets for the builders and heavy duty cable into the house ready for later, no additional costs 👍
  10. Fairly hot (and cold in the winter) but fir the few hours I will be working in it it was not worth the cost of insulation.
  11. A concern I have is I know PV panels loose efficiency when they get hot, so are panels less efficient over a tin roof than a clay or concrete roof? 🤷‍♂️
  12. Yes, if my signal is bad I go sit in the car outside to make a call 🤯
  13. My workshop metal roof is scorching hot, shame to waste that heat, however hopefully I will cover it In PV soon.
  14. Yup, local advert and chap offered to buy it and collect 👍
  15. I think the problem with all wet solar systems are integrating them into the house plumbing, fine fir a hot tub etc. I discounted them in favour of PV a long time ago (but still to get round tuit 🙏👀)
  16. I have loads of UFH pipe left over, shame it’s not black 🤷‍♂️
  17. Ha, down here in the southwest the sky started leaking (I think it’s called rain) well, just a little, light cloud and thankfully much cooler.
  18. @Bozzacan you point me at what you bought, my mobile signal is rubbish and i use a hotspot from my mobile for my iPad .
  19. I built a conservatory, looks like it’s outside but (with windows and doors shut) much warmer 😎
  20. Frankly better in my opinion and very accurate, it’s what I would use 👍
  21. You need to know this so you can place your support thingys in the ground accurately.
  22. Yes as long as you go down to solid ground.
  23. How are you going to join pillars to 6x2,s? I would do this….
  24. You can extend or get longer hoses but not worth the faff, left hand side horizontal will work just fine 👍
  25. My workshop roof is steel sheet but on pre made wood roof trusses. I was worried about condensation but used breathable roofing felt below battens and had no condensation issues at all. Yes it will be cold so why the cavity?, mine is single block (rendered) with pillars. Mine is also under PD. (I think 12’ might not work with roofing felt 🤔)
