  1. The tape is on site? If so, why wouldn't you use it? Correctly applied, the tape stops the membrane flapping about. Or have I missed something?
  2. Really nice new CSS file: helps legibility and readability. Well done.
  3. @pocster , your life is just one big long adventure innit ?
  4. Just seen this @pocster my son..... Using a COLD timber-to-steel screw, cover the end of the screw with some spit, spit in the hole, and then try again. The dampness works as a cutting agent Before wetting the end of the screw, there's no real need to explain why you should make sure the screw is cold is there, no ..... ? What-A-Dickhead.
  5. Anyone trying to buy Siberian Larch then? Or was my build one of the last to be supplied?
  6. Here's a list of all the posts that have the term checklist in the title https://forum.buildhub.org.uk/search/?q=checklist&updated_after=any&sortby=relevancy&search_in=titles
  7. Morning Derek. Welcome. You sound very sorted out. Please post ideas for your layout here. You never know what the hive mind that is Buildhub will throw up. And, as for stupid questions - there's almost no such thing. Almost no such thing? Is your project over-budget?
  8. You log your teens' hot water consumption ? Honestly? I remember being glad if ours used any hot water at all. But then they met members of the opposite persuasion ....
  9. You are right. But, at the time the house was designed, the idea that Debbie could come home to an empty house, and switch a light on (and off) in every room from one 5 Amp master switch by the main door put a smile on her face. And made her feel more secure about coming home when no other family member is home. That made whatever minor inconvenience a 5 Amp circuit causes in a new build simply irrelevant. The financial saving is irrelevant too.
  10. Mornin' I see you've brought the sunshine with ya..... Thanks. Just in case you haven't found it, this site has a brilliant search section. Here's an example of what it can do - click the link. Apologies if you already know about it. https://forum.buildhub.org.uk/search/?&q="knocked down" semi&search_and_or=or&sortby=relevancy I just pasted the term " knocked down" into the search box . I then refined that search further by adding the term semi Could you keep the sun shining for a few days please.... ? Ta! Ian
  11. Same age as the rest of us then. .... Welcome
  12. We have the 4G version. I've given up trying to get the web version of the performance data out of it - our MyEnergi hub sorts that out though....
  13. Ours are 144 - 146 ish. Some are down to 120 because thats what we needed to do to make them fit. For the life of me, now, I can't tell the difference unless I'm close up. Not worth worrying about.
  14. @Russell griffiths, that looks fantastic : and perfect for you because I hear you are into wild swimming. I can just imagine it ; skinny dipping at dawn and (this time of year) wild ospreys sitting on your roof waiting their chance for a ....
  15. Him, not the room. BUT, try not to cook him quite so much that - since nature abhors a vacuum - he becomes so warm that he doubles as a room heater
  16. Needs a pair of well padded grab-handles on the back of the door, just above knee height. I mean, its a double-activity facility: puke and strain all at once.
  17. This thread is good company: and maybe one we should encourage new self-builders to read before starting their project(s).
  18. @pocster working for you then?
  19. Exactly right. But once not long past the point of no return (Outline PP awarded) , every little thing we do to fulfil our dream means increased commitment. Then one day you realise you're trapped. Welcome to Higher Highs, Lower Lows. A test of mettle. Backs to the wall, we all fight harder.
  20. Money spent on a proper survey will allow you to sleep at night. Nowt worse than not knowing....
  21. Welcome. Or should I say Wilkommen? As a German, I'd say there's nothing all that special about German companies. The reputation of the product also depends on the quality of the build process. So, I'd say that one important factor could well be : will German workers do the job (or supervise the job) , or will their their UK counterparts do everything? As you say, this is specialised work. Have you asked any similar specialist UK companies to quote yet? Glatharr (Finished cellars company) will have its competitors. Because its very common indeed to have a cellar in ze Fatherland. Do a bit of digging around for cellar construction companies in Germany.
  22. Lancashire County Councillors tell me (informally) that '... infrastructure follows development ...' I asked for policy evidence of that statement. None: well, there's the A6 Development Area (The West of A6 Master Plan 2019). Infrastructure recently built before the the housing? None. Chickens come before eggs up here ...
  23. I'm sure everyone will stick to the topic: how the war is likely to affect self builders......
  24. @nod : Our foundations wiring team (4 of them) were Ukrainian ; my God they worked like - well Ukrainians. Frankly, they are just the sort of lads you need in a tight spot - fantastic work rate. And the Italian team are still having their siesta ...... ? @scottishjohn As to energy independence: is now the time to start thinking about wind? What price would electricity have to be to make domestic-level wind power worth while? Hold on, won't the price of batteries go up ........ arghhhh! @epsilonGreedy : in retaliation, please God the Russians don't stop a ship-load of plasterboard leaving St Petersburg for Hull.
  25. Excellent news. Self-building is a very long series of very steep learning curves. You've just taught me a lesson. Thank you. My God I've been tempted not to buy insurance.
