  1. Our cladding is Siberian Larch. The supplier says they've got enough for the next month or so. They have no idea whether they can get any more.
  2. But the added armour was fitted to aircraft on the basis of evidence. Not the lack of it. Ah ... the perils of analogy .
  3. Of course its possible. The question is ... at what cost? It might even be feasible. Go onto Cotswold District Council's (I may have the authority wrong) Planning website, register and then use their advanced search facility to look for applications for projects similar to yours. Crawl all over them, know them inside out, visit them. Doing that makes you less of a target for tooth-sucking professionals. Have half a dozen existing examples of what you want at your fingertips so you can say -- ....I want it like this .... Please bear in mind we are not experts. Nosey, well-informed, experienced, hard-bitten, yes. But expert - NO. Looks like fun. Keep us posted (we are nosey) ๐Ÿ˜
  4. One of ours managed to perfect the art of showering - well gently irrigating is a better descriptor - while whispering sweet nothings into a phone jammed against one shoulder. For thirty minutes at a time. How he didn't break his neck in the process, I'll never know. Oh the joy of throwing the switch on the shower circuit just before ( his consequently un-showered ) mum and dad I left to celebrate Friday night. And the pub, joy of joys, (then) didn't get a phone signal on any network. Ah, never mind, what a shame. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
  5. We need a tighter brief so we can help you more. What stage is the general design? Agreed, still in process, fixed? Has there been an M+E design? Has it been signed off? Has any of your M+E got a requirement for data: if so what's the specification for that? Will WiFi be 'enough' All Quintec light switches (other systems are available) or hard wired? KeepItSimple
  6. Well most folk in Pilling have their BBQs in the bathroom, I'm told. For one thing the water is warmer indoors
  7. Ahhha ! I used to fellrun past the end of your access. If I'm right, here's a footpath nearby isn't there? I now know what you mean. Its a bastard. The only thing I can think of is the traditional Lake district method. In all seriousness: horse drawn .... Yep, I know.... Quad bike, trailer ?
  8. I'm not qualified to give you an opinion. But I have faced lots of problems of the type you describe on my build. And when that happened, one thing I did which almost always helped, was to go around the locality and look to see how others have solved the problem. I found building site managers always helpful once I'd introduced myself and asked if I could go and have a look. The visits were almost always instructive - and I learned loads about other build-related issues too. I got asked why I was lurking once or twice .... The producers of Prepend Vents will have a view on your problem too. Look at their website and see if they have a Tech support service. Ian
  9. Hello, A map or a sketch drawing or a google maps or other online mapping reference - or a screen grab of the image produced by the mapping tool would help us help you.
  10. Whatever you do, @Dave and Helen, do your Due Diligence on any recommendation. A recommendation sourced from this site does not mean that the company has been endorsed by Build Hub.
  11. Chapter and verse (says he the most inexpert of experts). In short, no BS stamp, its not up to standard.
  12. I haven't . And I haven't been asked for one. Yet. (that important little word) Thanks for posting this thread. A quick google (other search engines are available) found OFGEM saying this . The publication includes a checklist for Commissioning Certification . I think though, that the document might be specific to FIT installations - looks like another minefield to navigate .... arghhhh. Maybe - just maybe, your electrician will be able to confirm that the system has been commissioned?
  13. Yeaaaahhhh.... @Marvin, I'd post a child up in the ceiling space and listen for the screams .... by the far the most elegant answer to the problem.
  14. Here's a good video that explains how some people lay roof tiles. Its one of a series - very informative.
  15. Ok, thanks. Here, abstracted form the Decision Notices is a simple explanation of why one was refused, and the other accepted. In short, one applicant listened to what the Planner wanted ( advised ) , and the other didn't. and My (inexpert) advice, make an application and listen to what the planner suggests. Act on the advice. Good luck! Ian
  16. Hello @kiehugh, welcome. Yes, and no. No, because we can't 'see' your property. Its that concept ...value... thats the most difficult to judge : it's worth is always judged in the eye of the beholder: a family of 4 (2+2), or two old folks like me and SWMBO, our two dogs, one cat a scramble of chickens? Yes Could you send us (upload) a sketch plan of your property, and maybe link to the planning documentation held by your Planning Authority as in .'.. believe this was rejected ....' : doing that will help us help you. What we need most is called the Decision Notice. But a simple link to the application will do. Take a look at this resource: 30 home improvements that aren't worth the money I bet you anything that some folk on here would love a home gym (specially @pocster cos he needs one ๐Ÿคจ) and my OH would love a mature garden. Who are you likely to sell to? Here, there's a high turnover of University staff ( minimal garden maintenance, fast BB, easy parking, easy access to schools) and lots of medical staff at the two hospitals good yearly turn-over of medics - nearly no old fuddy duddies like us two. What will your likely market appreciate? Talk to an estate agent about that. Gold dust. For balance here's an article about the things that some authors think are worth it. Pinch or three of salt needed here methinks.
  17. Does the PVC panel have to be fire-rated?
  18. Yes. The answer to your problem is really simple: the types of fire detection are a matter for a competent designer . How those detectors look isn't (because they in turn will have been designed by competent designers). i.e. there are a range of sensor designs from which to choose commission the fire engineering report send the fire engineer your architects plans in relation to fire suppression send a copy of the fire engineers report to the BCO for approval - and wait for the response from his office meanwhile: send a copy of the report to two or three fire systems suppliers and ask them for a price to supply and fit (VAT NOT CHARGED ON SUPPLY AND FIT) Read the BCO's response to the design. If it varies from the design that you have commissioned , send the BCOs response to the fire company. Do not pay them anything until the BCO and the company have come to some form of agreement. Do NOT just fit what the fire equipment company says : the BCO can (and in our case did) reject the company's design and require additional protection. After it had been fitted. Cue noises from one AnnoyedButToughButtercup After doing Due Diligence, ask the suppliers to fit equipment which you want (that may well mean leg-work looking for unobtrusive equipment of the right type for your fire design) Yes, what am saying is, that a nominally Competent Designer (as defined in CDM2015 as amended) official design can be challenged by a BCO ( he / she won't sign your house off). And that has happened to us. And, a year later, I'm still trying to unpick the problems caused. Can't take a joke? Don't self-build.
  19. Can you tell us what the current fall is (from the house to the edge of the balcony edge) across the balcony, please? I ask because that will help us help you ....
  20. So how do you drill into those panels without skittering around all over the place?
  21. A quick site-wide search shows that nobody has mentioned them. They are manufactured locally to us (North West), so might well not be available across the UK - hence the lack of reference to them here on BH. Here's the url for the (in)famous bathroom boxing in : settle in for a quiet night's reading by the fireside. Somewhere in there you'll find an alternative for what you are looking for. Reading glasses at the ready ..... Go !

  23. Here's what calls itself a design guide for Interior Japandi design......
